"But he's a child for crying out loud!"

"We know." Rin said quietly.

She stared at the minuscule Chara, who was asleep on Diana's lap. He was swaddled in the blankets that Adrian had managed to get his hands on. For some reason, this made him look more fragile than before.

Rin was supposed to resent Adrian and Chara because they constantly reminded her of Agate, but she decided that now was not the time.

Another thing nagging at her conscience was the fact that she explained everything but the truth about Betty's origins.

Rin looked away in an attempt to ignore the dread.

Adrian paced around the guest room, frantically trying to think of a plan.

As far as they knew, it was hopeless.

Betty could probably sense Chara's determination. It's like he has a tracker on him. If they try to escape, Betty will block their path.

They were trapped in the palace.

And what's worse, they feared that everyone in the palace might be an impostor.

The only safe room is where they were, because they knew that all of them were not impostors.

They were cornered.

"There's no other way." Kody said, his voice low. "We'll have to stand our ground and fight."

"What are the odds we'll win?" Diana asked.

Kody did not reply.

This creature has killed 2 wizards.

Single handedly.

The odds of defeating Betty without a determination soul were far from high.

Diana realized what the look on Kody's face meant.

The last of her hopes were flattened.

"Great." she said with tears of frustration. "So I suppose we just give up and give her the child like some human sacrifice?"

"Not an option!" Adrian yelled angrily.

"That was sarcasm you idiot!" Diana snapped.

"I know perfectly well what sarcasm is!" Adrian hissed.

"Then act like it!"

"Adrian, Diana, not now, please." Kody pleaded desperately. "Besides..."

He gestured to Chara, who stirred in his sleep.

At the sight of Chara sleeping, Adrian unclenched his fists and took a deep breath.

"Fine." he sighed grumpily.

Diana huffed and folded her arms over her chest.

Adrenaline coursed rapidly through their veins. Time is running out. The flurry of emotions was so  overwhelming that it prevented all of them from thinking rationally.

They all wanted to let their thoughts and feelings, but they seemed to have forgotten how.

"If we'll stay here and fight, there's a high chance of failure." Rin stated.

"Thank you, for bringing that up." Kody said irritated.

"That's why we won't do that." Rin said calmly.
