[A/N Sorry for the slow update. We were moving.]
Three hours.
Three hours until they leave this place.
Rin made it clear to Kody that she'll never visit Delos again.
She was too upset.
Kody had tried to cheer her up countless times. But it seemed that making Rin smile was 50 times harder than usual.
Rin couldn't help resenting the place.
She couldn't help resenting anything that reminded her that she was friends with Agate once upon a time.
Even Kody.
He's a wizard too, right?
He knew Agate as well.
He was even friends with her.
Ugh.
Rin realized she was a wizard as well.
'Perfect.' she thought. 'Now I hate me.'
The more she thought about it,
the more she found reasons to despise herself.
She made a mental list of reasons why she was right to do so:
1. She had trusted a psychopath.
2. She didn't accompany Ellie that night.
3. She had been right.
4. She was being an extremely irrational teenager
6. The red book went missing because she threw it across a room in frustration.
7. Now, she can't remember which room she threw a tantrum in.Great.
Rin felt like she walked past this corridor for the billionth time.
'Where in the world did I throw that cursed book?' she thought.
A guard marched by, and Rin put on her reliable, fake ecstatic smile.
The guard gave her a salute and marched passed her.
Immediately after the guard had passed her, she went back to her 'talk-to-me-and-you-will-die' face.
She only wears this expression in front of Kody. He's the only other person in this world who knows what had happened.
When talking to everyone else, she puts on her regal, polite smile and uses a cheerful voice that isn't hers.
She found the other, fake cheerful version of herself disgusting. How dare she smile politely at a time like this? She should be lamenting the events that came to pass.
Still, this was her defense mechanism.
'Pretend you are alright. Only tell those who deserve your trust. Be fake towards everybody else. Repeat until death.'
She had to bear with fake Rin.
Yesterday, Kody had said talking about it helps.
But it only made her feel worse.
Now Kody had to live with the knowledge too. She felt like she'd dragged Kody into the mess.
She could've spared him the pain.
She kept walking.
'Have I checked the guest room?' she asked herself.
She figured that maybe she hadn't.
