She Was Such A Pain.

"That bad, huh?" A certain greenette questions, he had been training with Dracule Mihawk for just over a year now and in between sessions, he was able to get some conversation out of the older gentleman, as well as some booze.

"She was a nightmare." The hawk-eyed raven responds coldly, his gaze fixing the wine glass he's holding in between his pale fingers.

It wasn't often he spoke about the redheaded girl that he had raised, especially not to somebody who's looking to surpass him but Zoro had already met her and she had made it abundantly clear that she saw Mihawk like a father so there's really no point in concealing it from the fellow swordsman.

"She never follows instructions, I told her specifically not to let anyone know that we are linked." Mihawk's sentence coming out as more of a sigh, causing Zoro to chuckle quietly to himself.

It was true that the greenette had gathered she was stubborn when she had allied herself with the crew briefly, she didn't like people 'barking' orders at her, if you wanted her assistance, you were to ask politely and she'll consider it.

Zoro won't even pretend that her little quirk didn't annoy him immensely at first but he soon grew used to it like he got used to his crew's personalities also.

"She was at her worst in the beginning though, when I had first took her in."

The greenette still listening as he presses the bottle of sake to his lips, taking a few swigs as Mihawk shifts in his seat, sipping on his wine also before he continues.

"She had seen her mother commit suicide the very day I found her so eating was an issue since she lacked the appetite." The raven boldly claims, his eyes falling closed in irritation. "She would always refuse to eat, it was annoying."

"Suicide?" Zoro hadn't heard about that, mainly because if anybody asked her about her mother, Kyo would simply claim that she doesn't remember the woman.

It makes sense why she said such a thing though, he understands that some people find it easier to force themselves to forget than to face up to their demons.

"Well, I didn't know that." The younger swordsman admits although he didn't really need to, Mihawk could see from the very expression on the boy's face that he knew nothing about it. "But she did seem to get full quickly when eating on the ship so the lack of appetite makes sense."

The new information causes the hawk-eyed male to frown, a quiet and displeased grunt escaping his lips before his eyes flicker down to the book laid open in front of him, it was a story she wrote for him when she was about 10 years old.

The handwriting is messy and there's many spelling errors but he still likes the tale nonetheless, it has a lot of imagination inside of it.

"She wasn't allowed to leave the table until her plate was clear." Mihawk murmurs calmly, his observant eyes scanning each scruffily-written word on the page before him, the paper had started to gain a slightly yellow tint to it over time. "She'd refuse to eat until the food was stone-cold but she'd always give in eventually."

Mihawk wouldn't admit it to Zoro but he honestly despised meal times with her, he hated forcing the child to eat when she was clearly traumatized and he hated it when he'd hear her being sick after forcing the food down but it was necessary, if she didn't eat then she'll eventually begin to starve.

If she was starving then she'll be weaker in combat, when he's trying to train her and she'll never improve, never be able to look out for herself. He dragged her through a bit of hell but he did it all for her own good in the end, although he's much too proud to admit such a thing.

She's still a stubborn pain in his neck though, even when she's no longer living with him, even when she's currently on the other side of the world.

He had told her when she was 17 and old enough to leave his island, he had warned her not to make friends with pirates and to keep her distance, he tried to scare her off the idea entirely by telling her all sorts of things.

He had told her that they'll betray her, that they all indulge a dangerous lifestyle and always face the possibility of being killed and that if they decide to attack her, he won't be there to help and she'll die - of course, it didn't scare her enough because she has since allied herself with a few pirate crews.

Stupid kid.

Naturally, he was only proven right at Marineford when many of the Whitebeard pirates were killed, including Whitebeard himself as well as Portgas D. Ace, she had previously formed an alliance with that crew from what he had heard.

His points on betrayal were proven even before the war though, when Marshall D. Teach had attacked and killed his own crew mate for a measly devil fruit, Mihawk had heard that she was friends with the deceased. Thatch, if he remembers his name correctly.

At least she mostly travels alone, that is something she actually listened to, thankfully.

His irritation with her only worsens when he thinks of all her wasted potential.

He was willing to teach her a little bit of everything he knew, it's an honour that most would die for and he was going to grant her this for free, of course the dumb kid had the attention span of a goldfish so training her everything he knew was impossible.

She can fight, that's for sure but if he had to face her seriously in a one-on-one, he'd wipe the floor with her and it'd be utterly embarrassing for the both of them.

His golden eyes resting on his name in the little story she had written as a child, the spelling error still causing his brows to furrow, even to this day.

'Dracula...'

She was such a pain...yet, he couldn't bring himself to hate the kid.

"Let's resume our training, Roronoa. You've still got a lot to learn."
