TWO LUCKY GUYS

Luck was on our side, there was no denying it. We had become rich, and we had plenty of time to enjoy our small fortune. And if that were not enough, therapy to cure my heartache was to start at any minute: a group of well-proportioned sirens were waiting for us at the pool, that is, they were soaking up the sun...

Basically, Dr. Masterton just needed to use us as a façade. And as such, it had worked out perfectly. That was the plan. Nothing more. There was even the possibility that he would leave for the Bat Cave just with Felix, and even if we did go with him, that was surely no big deal.

It was too good to be true, but everything seemed to indicate that Darwin had been right from the start. The only instruction that we had gotten from the doctor was to rest. This trip was a vacation!

"We have to take advantage of this break," I finally recognized, lying down on my comfortable bed.

"That is exactly what we're going to do!" said Darwin, from his. "We are two lucky guys!"

I finally started to understand Darwin. Now it amazed me that the trip had aroused such silly fears in me. How absurd!

"We'll make up for lost sleep!" I exclaimed, "And then party!" I looked at my watch: it was only 10:35 a.m. "Wake me up at 2:00 p.m.," I said with a yawn.

Darwin didn't answer. He was already snoring.

I got comfortable, and closed my eyes. A sunny afternoon with bikini-clad girls will be the medicine for forgetting Vanessa, I thought optimistically. Without a doubt, I had to try that therapy before seeking the help of an expert.

Despite the concert of snores coming from my roommate, sleep soon came to me. A heavy, welcome drowsiness seeped into my bones, massaging them pleasantly. I hold been told to go to sleep! Just then someone knocked on the door. Was I dreaming? The knock came again. To hell with it! I wasn't getting up. A voice could be heard. It sounded loud. I turned over in my bed, waiting. Someone kept knocking. The voice came again. It was the doctor's voice. Darwin was as if unconscious, snoring at full volume...so there was nothing else for it but to leave my lovely bed and go to the door. I opened it slowly.

"Is it lunchtime?" I mused.

My swollen eyes snapped shut at the light from the corridor. The doctor said something that I didn't manage to pick up. I was still half asleep.

"Breakfast?" I ventured.

"Did you both rest?" I heard clearly.

I rubbed my eyes.

"Excuse me? Did we rest?"

"Excellent."

My vision was hazy, but I could begin to make out the peculiar sight of Moses Masterton.

"Why didn't you answer the telephone?" he wanted to know.

"Did you call?"

"Many times. I'll be waiting for you in my room in five minutes!" he turned around and ran for the elevator. "We have a lot of work to do!"
