Darwin adjusted his glasses and looked me up and down.
"Are you thinking of going like that?" he objected, as if horrified. "You're completely filthy! Besides which, that smell..."—he shook his head—"it'd be better if you took a shower," he concluded.
"Forget it!"
I made for the door.
"There's no time!" I added.
There was a bus parked right outside, the motor running. We quickened our pace and, just then, the doctor leaned out of a window.
"Hurry up!" he exclaimed. "We can't lose even one second!"
We boarded the bus, and immediately, the smell of a delicate and pleasing perfume surrounded me. It was a woman's scent. I said hello to the driver and glanced back towards the seats to find the source of the sensual fragrance. Vanessa was sitting in the first row, next to Felix. She waved at me. Oh God! I reflexively returned her wave and lifted my hand to my hair to comb it. I encountered a sticky mass...
"My niece knows the region of Izabal perfectly," the doctor stated.
The vehicle took off. Darwin directed a sharp look towards me. I in turn gave him a look of confusion.
"Doctor," Darwin said, "Is Vanessa going to be our guide?"
"Of course!" the blonde replied enthusiastically, and she looked at me. "I'll be your guide..."
I swallowed hard.
