Recap:
"...Okay, I'll get out of here. Sorry."
Sasuke started to ninja run through the trees but just before he disappeared out of view...
"Sasuke move! There's a leopard den right there!"
This was the second time in Sakura's life where she felt so much adrenaline run through her, although this time it was because her classmate was about to become leopard chow. With a powerful lunge, she jumped off of the tree with a faint hissing sound accompanying her journey. Just as she feared, she saw the faint outline of a large carnivorous man-eating cat pounce up at its prey. The boy was clearly not expecting a cat to jump out at him, just as she had not expected it. She barely managed to get away from it then, and she was on a tree not in mid-air. Plucking a shuriken out of her dwindling pack, she hurriedly threw it at the creature's eye. Hopefully anyway. Shurikenjutsu wasn't her best subject. But it would do its job as a distraction at the very least.
Sakura quickly gained more speed with an additional tree hop and grabbed Sasuke with his turtleneck collar. Giving him enough momentum to get onto a tree. Mere seconds later, he started running through the handsigns of what Sakura recognized as fire ninjutsu.
[Sasuke... What are you doing... -_-]
His actions could be accurately summed up in that sentence of Inner's. He was using fire ninjutsu... in a forest. A very flammable forest. Sakura let out a sigh, before swiftly grabbing his turtleneck and flinging him closer to the leopard and far away from the trees.
"???!!!"
"Sorry, I'll explain later! Just use the ninjutsu!"
Letting out a somewhat irritated nod, Sasuke let loose a hot torrent of flames raining down upon the leopard. Moments later, the leopard cam bursting out of the fire with only light burns coating his coat.
{Did this leopard eat a soldier pill or something! Why is it still okay??!}
Echoing Navi's thoughts on the subject, Sasuke showed a hint of surprise before it transformed into a scowl of irritation. Quickly going through the hand-seals of what Sakura recognized as the substitution jutsu, Sasuke appeared next to her in place of a branch the next second later.
"Do you have any shuriken left? If so, then give some to me."
Sakura was momentarily shocked but, it quickly turned to irritated resignation.
"Here, I have a couple left that I can give to you. Do you worst, duckie."
"D-duckie??!"
"Yes, duckie. You better hurry up, the leopard's getting closer."
The Uchiha gave an affronted squawk.
Sasuke practically clawed the small quantity of kunai and shuriken from her hand. But the time for talking was over, and the leopard was ready to jump them. Sasuke quickly rapid fired several kunai and shuriken towards the limbs of the creature. However, the leopard displayed astonishing agility and dodged the majority of the sharp projectiles leaving one wondering if it really consumed a soldier pill. Unfortunately for the beast, the few that did hit it left it howling around in pain. The one in its eye looked particularly painful, with the eyeball cut in a few inches deep.
Ouch.
Consumed in a fit of primordial rage, the leopard started slashing and clawing... well, everything. A piece of Sasuke's turtleneck shirt was unfortunately sacrificed to the claws. Just as Sasuke was about to be overwhelmed, Sakura saved the day with a well-placed kunai. Specifically one through the heart.
However...
"Why is it still moving???!!!"
The leopard slowly stood up and made quite an intimidating picture with its eyeball half cut out, with a kunai through its heart. Both academy students were frozen in fear, and the leopard was not one to not take the opportunities presented to it. The leopard lunged, and Sakura screamed.
"Sasuke! You need to decapitate it!!!"
The leopard was, in fact, an extremely rare chakra creature who's parents had most likely passed the regeneration factor down to. It was similarly really rare for a chakra beast to not have physical changes when it awakens to chakra, hence why the both of them were taken off guard.
Sasuke quickly overcame his shock, and in one swift slash he cut off the head of the already weakened beast. The beast finally stopped moving and slumped on the ground in eternal rest.
"Haaa, how did the chunin let that chakra beast into the training field?"
"Hn."
Sakura turned her head to look at the sky. It was already getting quite dark out, and even the nearest 'knock-out' territory was pretty far away. Common sense dictated that it wasn't safe to walk around in the forest during the night too...
'Arggh, I'd rather not deal with him if I could... Eh, oh well.'
"Hey, duck- I mean Sasuke, want to just stay in here for the night?"
Sakura interrupted him before he could say a word.
"Look, don't get the wrong idea. I'd just feel pretty bad if I left you wondering back at night."
The Uchiha's pride and common sense waged a war inside of him, but common sense won in the end. Even he knew that navigating the forest in the dark was a pain.
"I'll take up your offer, Pinky."
"Your welcome, Duckie."
It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
