Vernon shoves us into the house. I fall to the floor as he pushes Harry into his cupboard. "What happened?!" He growls at us as his face turns a dark shade of violet.

"We don't know! One minute the glass was there and then it was gone!" Harry says quickly.

"It vanished! It was like magic!" I pipe in. He growls and slams the door shut on Harry's door then stalks up to me and slaps me in the face and holds my shoulders tightly as he shakes me.

"There's no such thing as magic!" He growls and slams me into the floor. I look at Harry's cupboard and see him looking at me through the peepholes. I try to stand up but Vernon slams his foot into my back and I fall back to the floor with a cry.

"Stop it!" Harry screams and pounds on the door but Vernon ignores him and picks me up by my hair and I cry out in pain as I grab his wrist and stand up. He pushes me into the wall as he opens the basement door. I shake my head violently just before he throws me down the stairs.

He slams the door shut and I flinch at the noise and try to stand up only to fall again. I cry as I lay on the floor and I feel a tiny soft thing rub against my face. I open my eyes and see my little mouse friend there. He squeaks quietly and I lift up my hand and pet him.

"I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to put up with my crying all the time, huh? I'll stop now." I hiccup as I try to stand up but fall once again. Well, guess I'm sleeping here tonight. I hear him squeak again and curl up next to me. And that is how I fall asleep.

The next few days were very uncomfortable. The Dursleys treated me like garbage, more than usual, and a little more than Harry, and especially with Vernons' beatings. I think it has something to do with me telling Vernon the glass disappeared like magic. Well, its true.

I get off my cot and go to my pile of clothes on the cold floor. I see my little mice friend sitting at the top of the pile.

I smile and drop to my knees. "What did you snatch up this time?" I ask him.

He holds his paws out and I see a piece of cracker. I give him a reassuring smile. "Good try. Next time I'm sure you'll get a piece of cheese." I tell him petting his soft head.

He scurries away and I get dressed.

I go up the stairs and I see Harry getting the mail. "Hey, look at this." He whispers and hands me a letter.

I look down at it.

Miss I. Potter,
The basement,
4 Privet Drive,
Little Whinging,
SURREY

I look up to Harry and he looks to me. We both go to open our own but Dudley had to snatch it from our hands.

"Mommy! Daddy! Harry and Iris got letters!" He whines running to them.

"Hey! Give it back!" Harry yells.

"It's ours!" I exclaim angrily at him.

Dudley looks at me with a smirk but then looks down at the letters along with Vernon and Petunia. They all look shocked.

They slowly look up at us and then to each other and then back to us.

Me and Harry look at each other, then back to them. I almost laugh. Almost. "So! Can I have my letter now?" I ask sweetly.

Vernon growls and comes after me. I squeak and grab Harry's arm and pull him with me. I shove him in the closet and I hop down the stairs into my basement.

Vernon is at the top of the stairs. "Ha ha, you can't get me!" I mock him, knowing he won't come down here. He's too lazy. I'm just asking for it now.

"Why you-" He growls and I see his face go purple from down here. I chuckle.

"You look like a plum!" I shout up to him and walk to my cot. I hear him slam my door in anger and I roll my eyes.

The next day I heard whirring upstairs. Curious, I walked up the stairs and opened my door a crack. I see Harry do the same.

"No more mail through this letter box." Vernon says as he drills a wooden plank across the letter slot. I narrow my eyes and shut my door.

I walk back downstairs. Why does he care if we get letters or not? It's not up to him.

I grab the broom from the corner of the basement and start sweeping. When I'm bored, I clean. Besides, it needs a good sweeping.

I sweep until I no longer can because of the dirt in the air. I go upstairs for some fresh air and walk in the living room.

I stand next to Harry as we watch Vernon put more of our letters into the fire. He looks back at us and smiles as he motions to the letter and fire and then throws it in there.

I glare at him. Stupid, fat old man. I hate him so much. When we turn eighteen, we are getting out of here.

We go to our 'bedrooms', more like cells, and I go to my cot. I sit on it as I stare at my hands. This is so unfair. Who in the world decided that making us live with these people was a good idea? Who ever made that decision is a complete pillock!

I hear a small squeak and turn my head to see my mouse friend. "Hello there. Did you get anything?" I ask with a smile. He nods and jumps onto my cot.

He holds a green grape up to me. I smile as I pet his head softly. "Great job, little one." I say as I continue to pet it's soft body.

"You don't have a name yet, do you?" I ask him as he scurries onto my open palm. I bring him closer to my face. "How could you not have a name yet? What about Ozzy? You like that one?" I ask him and he shakes his head. "No, I didn't think so. How about Winston?" I ask him and he once again shakes his head.

"Oh, how about James? You like that one?" I ask him and he nods his head as he squeaks excitedly. I laugh. "Me too." My smile fades as I stare at the small mouse I named after my father and my brother's middle name.

I set him down on my pillow as I lay down. I turn and face James as he lays there staring at me. "We need to find a way out of here, James. We can't stay here much longer. It's becoming unbearable to put up with." I tell him softly as I rub my bruised side.

I sigh. "We'll never leave this place, will we? We are stuck here for the rest of our lives." I say, mostly to myself now. I sigh again and smile at the mouse. "Goodnight, James. Sleep tight." I say and fall asleep almost instantly.
