CHAPTER 20
Later that day as planned, Yuri is on her way to Tasha's dorm. On the way, Yuri feels a little nervous and anxious for unknown reasons to her
With a knock on the door, Tasha opens it and invites Yuri to come in. Looking around, Yuri noticed that Tasha had already prepped her room for their first rehearsal. Her bed is moved against the wall, so was her dresser and study table. Her laptop was set with speakers for the music. There's enough room for them to plan their moves but not enough to actually execute them. They plan to look for a much bigger practice space for their final rehearsal.
Tasha sat on her bed and quickly focused her attention on her laptop "So I've been listening to some music we could use and I think 'a thousand years' by Christina Perri would be a great music to dance waltz to"
Yuri pulled a chair next to Tasha and sat, "so we're really doing waltz?"
Tasha nodded, her eyes still fixated to her laptop, "it's the easiest dance to learn since it's mostly just twirling around and foot works"
"Okay but I think we should use the chorus only, not the whole song" Yuri answered, "the dance instructor said last meeting that since there's many of us, the dance should be around 2 minutes"
"Even better! It'll be much easier to practice!" Tasha exclaimed, still not looking at Yuri
And of course, Yuri noticed this. She also noticed the tense, awkward atmosphere between the two of them and decided that they can't practice a dance if they're like this so...
"Tasha" Yuri spoke, "before we start, can we talk about something first?"
"Okay, what is it?" Tasha asked, still looking away
"You have to look at me so we could talk clearly"
"I'm busy looking at the steps of the foot work and I can hear you so just spill" Tasha said as her fingers moved against the touch pad of her laptop
"Alright" Yuri faced her and spoke frankly "Why did you kiss me?"
Tasha had seen this coming, she imagined this situation earlier and already came up with a few lies to tell but despite being prepared for it, her nerves are starting to get to her so she laughed to give her some time to think
"I'm not playing around Tasha, I want to know why you did that" Yuri said, "and can you look at me, you've been avoiding my face since I arrived"
Tasha closed her eyes for a bit then slowly turned to Yuri, "you know why I kissed you?"
Yuri shrugged and waited for Tasha's answer
"I kissed you because..." and Tasha's train of thought vanished as her eyes fixated on Yuri, "I like you"
Yuri stared with surprise, "You like me? Wait, what?"
As if a bucket of ice cold water was poured on her, Tasha froze upon realizing that she blurted out her thought instead of saying her lie. To cover up her 'confession', she started laughing hysterically
"I can't believe you fell for that!" Tasha basically lying through her teeth then quickly stood and walked around the room, "you're so gullible!" and continued to fake laugh
Yuri looked on, feeling dumb and embarrassed. Truth be told, Yuri was expecting some kind of confession but seeing Tasha's reaction, it just further convinces Yuri that they'll never get along well since Tasha seems to ridicule and not care about her at all
"Now, can we start practicing? I don't have much time or patience for this" Tasha said as she slowly stopped her laughter
"Yeah, I guess we should" Yuri answered plainly, a slow loss of interest can be easily interpreted from the intonation of her voice
