"Danielle!" Large hands shake my shoulders.
I shoot up, absolutely confused. I look around, remembering where I was. Had I fallen asleep?
"What are you doing over here?! We've been looking for you for an hour!" James yells at me, pulling me to my feet.
"I'm sorry.." I mumble.
"C'mon, let's go." He grabs my now dirty elephant.
I don't know where we're going, but I follow him anyways.
"Where's Justin?" I can't help but ask.
"Still looking for you at the fair with Ashley." He answers.
I look up at the fair in front of us. Most of the booths and rides have closed. I take a glance at the ferris wheel. I never got the chance to ride it with Justin.
"I don't know where they are." James mumbles, "Justin!" He calls out Justin's name.
We continue walking around, occasionally yelling for Justin. "I'm going to check over here, you look over there." James gestures to two different areas. I nod in response, turning to look for the couple.
I turn around the corner of a booth, gasping at the sudden sight. I cover my eyes with my hands, not wanting to interrupt Ashley and Justin's make-out session.
I peek between my fingers to see Ashley leaning against the booth with Justin very, very close to her.
"U-um, guys?" I squeak.
I guess I was too quiet though, because all I got in reply was a disturbing sound from Ashley. I'm pretty sure that wasn't meant for me either.
"Guys!" I hear James yell from beside me. When did he get there?
Justin jumps a couple of feet away from Ashley, wide-eyed and dropped jaw.
"We w-were just, uh, looking for Danielle?" Justin stutters.
Yeah, it sure looked like it.
Well why would he look for you? How are you so stupid? Seriously..
"Where? Down each other's throats?! I know Dani's pretty small but I don't think she can fit there." James exclaims.
"Sorry." Ashley mutters.
"Yeah, whatever. Thanks for your help." James replies, turning to walk away, "Shows how much you care." He mumbles.
I know right! See, Danielle, even he gets it!
I look down at my feet, rubbing my arm. I don't even want to take a glance at Justin.. I feel way too awkward.
"Dani, come on!" James calls to me. Thank you for saving me, James.
I jog/walk up to James, falling into step with him. I fold my arms together, noticing how much cooler it got since the sun went down. It's probably not even that cold, I just tend to get cold easily.
Soon, we reach the car. "You can sit in front with me. Justin's getting a ride with Ashley." James tells me.
"Oh, okay."
When we get in, James reaches to the floor of the backseat. His hand comes back up with a black hoodie, "Here, you're shaking like a chihuahua." He chuckles, handing me the hoodie.
"Thanks." I give him a half-smile as we pull out of the parking lot.
"So, tell me, how did you end up leaving the fair?" He glances at me.
