Prologue 6: Cross

Cross sat silently in his empty void of an AU, tired. He'd just fought with the Sans of Horrortale whilst attempting to gain a good look at the AUs he'd receive the option of taking parts from. While Cross enjoyed the fight, it had tired him out, and it was a partial waste. If he hadn't had fun, then the hour he spent ferreting around in that AU would've be frivolous.

In his mind, Cross!Chara! (Who will be simply referred to as Chara for the rest of this epilogue, for my own convenience XD) yawned, having just woken up from a nap. They'd been worn out from the constant strain of AU traveling, so while Cross had proceeded to scour Horrortale, Chara had rested. Now, Chara was up and ready to complain.

"Cross, why didn't you get any AU fragments from that AU?! It took so much out of me to get you to that one, so the least you could've done is taken one or two things!" Cross groaned, annoyed that he couldn't just fall asleep and ignore the spoiled brat, "Chara, I needed a break. Besides, that AU wouldn't have done us any good. It was only worth the fight I got from it. I guess you just got unlucky." Cross was glad he got to somewhat sass Chara up, seeing as all they ever really did was complain and give attitude. They seemed unamused though, and began yelling at Cross. They couldn't throw any punches due to the fact that they were only a figment of Cross's mind right now, and they had no physical form. Cross lay on the ground, giving himself a small while to be lazy. He'd barely gotten any sleep in the past day, and he needed to lay down at the very least.

As Cross lay nonchalantly on the cold, tile-like flooring below him, he listened to Chara grumble and whine to themselves. They continued for a long period of time, until they eventually stopped, and the surroundings went quiet. Cross sat up softly, only to be held down by glitched, blue strings. They were surprisingly strong too. Cross hadn't even heard them come in.

"So you're the one that stupid Nightmare keeps talking about.... haha. Not much, but I guess you'll have to do."

Cross glared up at this glitch-covered skeleton, who gazed back at him with his multicolored eyes and dark complexion. Insanity was a good word to describe the skeleton's look alone. "What do you want with me?" Cross hissed, staying aggressive.

"Lil me? Oh, well I need you to come with me actually."

"Not a damn chance." Cross growled, working to summon his sword. "I didn't say willingly, hehe." The glitched Sans managed to teleport himself and Cross to a dark hall with a grand throne of darkness standing tall ahead. Error had seemed to have pulled Cross up onto his knees, and now Cross kneeled whilst staying bound. Cross struggled and pulled at his bindings, this all happening too fast.

"Whoever you are, let me go!" Cross yelled out, not even noticing the dark figure sitting up in the throne.  As Cross cussed and fought, a loud yet calm and low voice rang out ahead.

"Cross."

Cross stopped, gazing up at where the voice had come from. It was Nightmare. Cross grumbled, rolling his eyes softly. Nightmare had approached him before about a certain employment. Cross had refused, and rather rudely told him off.

"What do you want this time Nightmare..."

Nightmare smirked softly, gazing down at Cross with a mischievous smile. He seemed to have some sort of devious plan in mind based on the look he had. Cross didn't really want to hear it, but he didn't exactly have a choice.

"I do believe that you'll want to hear me out Cross. After all, not many refuse my employment... so. I want you to work for me spreading negative energy throughout the multiverse. I've seen you at work, and your efficiency and skill would be to my benefit..."

Cross groaned, leaning around a little in annoyance and slight bore. If Nightmare planned to just try to gizzle him up in order to win him over, then the dark lord of TRY-HARDS would be very mistaken.

"Nightmare I'm not hear to listen to your bullshi-" "Oh my dear Cross, I'm not finished. As I was saying, I want you to be my subordinate. However, annoyingly enough you don't want to work for me. And so, I've decided to conduct a sort of... hmm bargain. You will work for me, and play well with my team..., and in return I shall aid you in the recreation of your universe."

Cross hesitated slightly, having been taken aback by Nightmare's offer. He knew that the dark one was completely greedy, and refused to help anyone with anything EVER... unless of course it benefited him. As selfish as Nightmare was, he wasn't completely against playing with others in order to benefit himself. How do you think he got his team? Cross was fighting himself to say no, but he was kind of intrigued. And more importantly, he'd do anything to get his family back.

After long moments of thinking, Cross made his choice, not feeling completely great about it though. The Nightmare gang murdered innocents and manipulated others in order to achieve their own goals. However, they did also beat up upon Ink. Cross wanted his revenge for Ink refusing to recreate his AU, and he wanted his family back. If he did join... god forbid... it would fulfill his needs... right?

"Nightmare I... I don't have a choice do I?"

"Nope :)"

Nightmare smiled down smugly at Cross, knowing that he'd won him over. Not that Cross had a choice, but at least he had a loyalty. And Nightmare would appreciate more of that in his team. Sure they all worked for him, but besides Killer, they were all slackoffs and assholes. Just a few days ago Nightmare had gotten Dust to go pick Horror up, and the two had ended up fucking around and killing off a perfectly good AU. No fucking manners or respect AT ALL. 'Buncha animals...

"Cross, have you made your decision? It had better be the right one."

Cross lowered his head, knowing that he'd probably regret this later. But what choice did he have? What did he have to loose? Nothing.

"I'll... fine. I'll work for you as long as you help me rebuild my AU. And then, we're done."

"Absolutely.~"

Nightmare then looked to behind Cross, and nodded. Cross was turned around, and he glared up at the rest of the Nightmare gang, who smiled right back down at him.

"Welcome to the team Cross."
