The sound of a door opening alerted Clairia that her husband had returned home. He was six foot with blonde hair and blue eyes but what made her fall for him was his charming sense of humor and he was sweet. His boots hit the floor in front of the door as he called" Where are you hiding?" Clairia sighed and got up from her study chair and she walked into the living room to greet her husband with a smile. "Welcome home. Dinner is in the kitchen and I have fresh tea made in the fridge." Her husband hugged her with a tight embrace and placed his head on hers. She sighed contently as she breathed in his scent that clung to his clothes, even the smell of motor oil won't deter her from his touch for the moment." I heard some odd rumors in town today about a creature that took someone into the forest."His voice rumbled in his chest as he spoke to her." I know I heard the same. I have no idea what this creature is and have nothing in the books about it."This statement made him freeze as he pulled away to look at her. She was used to battling the paranormal and every time she did she got tired and hurt.No experience was the same and it left a print in her soul that occasionally leaked out.
"Not every monster has to be dealt with by you. I am worried about you from the last time you fought the windigo in the south forest. He left you with a serious wound that took weeks to heal and even then it made you have nightmares. These monsters are not something to take lightly and it draws trouble to you." He said as he looked at her seriously. This was an arguement they had often in the last place they lived and he knew he couldn't protect her. Clairia looked hurt and dropped her arms to her sides. The last town they had lived in she was driven out by the locals because they became afraid of her and with more rips in the veil lately it was a high chance the same thing could happen again. "I can't ignore it and act like this is normal. These spirits are not going to stop with just one and we both know it." She said pointly to him with her anger bubbling in her chest. She knew she wasn't the only witch in the town anyway and she knew she could ask for help if she needed it. This town was filled with energy and that was another reason they moved here. His face became twisted with anger but before he could say anything there was a flash of blue light above the counter.
A letter fluttered to the counter and landed lightly on its surface. She met his eyes softly and said " I love you but this is more then just a simple haunting and because this appeared you know it." He closed his eyes and walked out the door with a slam. He knew he couldn't stop her, after all she was employed to a monster hunting club that she couldn't refuse or lose her powers as a result. He just hoped, for her sake, that this was going to be an easy matter to resolve. Clairia wanted to go after him but decided to let him cool off first and she would adress the problem later. She walked up to the counter and grabbed the letter from the counter and opened it." Mrs. Merramore, This is jeckle and as I'm sure your aware of the situation in the woods we are sending more agents to your town in response to the urgent call. This letter is containing to the creature in the woods around town and we are also sending more research material as your requested. This must be delt with swiftly and silently as your aware. I am also sending paperwork on the agents responding to the call. There will be a meeting at your home soon to discuss the proper proceeding measures. There is also equipment that needs to be sent and I'll be seeing you there as well. Sincerly, Jekle and hyde." This is serious if one of the top agents is coming for the meeting as well. She had to prepare a meeting space for all of them and also more food. This was going to be a long day on top of all the frustration with her husband. He had powers but none very useful but she will include him anyway.
The sound of files and books hitting the counter startled her out of her thoughts. The door opened and Clairia's husband rushed in at the sound of her yelp. He relaxed when he saw his wife was safe and looked around the room. Clairia grabbed the files and books to head to her study. This was going to be a long night with no breaks until she figured out what this creature is and how to stop it before the whole town went missing. She had delt with her fair share of creatures from lore. The smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen made her smile as she wrote down the signs of this creature and opened one of the books to look for a creature that matched its profile. She the checked the files for the agents that would be arriving later and made mental notes of personality traits based on the files. Page after page passed as she continued her search. One book after another she went through until one of the pages stuck out to her.
It was a page in a hunters journal that had been killed while on the hunt.It read " While passing through a small town in 1846 I heard the locals speaking about the hag of the forest who granted wishes but some of the town folks disappeared after their wishes were granted. This seemed odd to me and as I went into the woods I found a lair made of bones and vines. I could hear singing within that made my heart race. There was a young woman wrapped in vines and branches that spoke calmly and quietly to me. I felt like I was in a trance while she asked me my deepest desire. That was when I noticed a glowing door behind her and with a strong thought I woke up. Her shape changed to an old woman with long fingers and a mask of animal bones. Her creaked voice hissed at me as I turned to run out of her cave. I eventually captured the creature while she had taken a child and I buried her in iron chains on hollowed ground but she cast a spell to come back and for the world sake she will not return".
This matched the creature of the woods that was there. The question was now how to deal with it as Clairia turned to her other book on the table to reference the witch of the woods. There was more information on hunting pattern and even what other hunters have done to deal with it. The methods varied but one thing stuck out to her. The number of people that disappeared was always the same. The witch never stayed dead and that glowing blue doorway was always present which ment a rip in the veil. The methods the other hunters tried were burning, beheading, chaining, drowning ,and draining but nothing kept the spirit down. She was a ghost for sure but how do you end a spirit that had a physical body. That made her frown at the thought of being more then one witch. She brainstormed some ideas of how to deal with this ghost until she made a discovery. She had to get rid of the body, the true body but where would she find the body?
