The eight of us left the restaurant, all laughing hysterically at the event that just unfolded.
"Did you see that girls' face?" Barbara sputtered. "That was freaking awesome!" She looked to her left. "I think you broke Sal." Sal was laughing so hard no noise was coming out. He stood there laughing until Joe clapped him on the back and quipped "Gee, Sal, what's the matter with you? I've never seen you react like that, ever." I snickered. Sal wiped his eyes. "Oh man. I can't believe you. I'd never have the balls to do that. That was amazing!" I laughed and took a bow. "I'm glad you all enjoyed the show." I checked the time on my phone. Three p.m. "What's everyone else got going on today?" I glanced at Q. "Or are you tired of us yet?" Q shook his head. "If anything, I'm tired of Murray, but that's really nothing new. him and his peanut butter milkshake." Q made a face. "So gross." "Oh that's right, you don't like peanut butter!" I exclaimed. Q shook his head. "It's gross, man. It's so thick. It's just...weird. I don't know." I smiled. "Well, I mean, I guess it's not for everybody. I know I've been weary of peanut butter since I saw Murr stick his fingers in Sal's peanut butter jar." Sal looked like he was about to puke. He smacked Murr in the arm. "That was such a terrible thing to do. I had to deep clean my entire kitchen. Well, I had to deep clean my entire house, but that's neither here nor there. I had to buy new peanut butter." "I hope you bought new jelly, too," Murr said.
"YOU STUCK YOUR HANDS IN MY JELLY TOO?" My god, Murr, why not just lick everything in the kitchen while you're at it?" I was dying laughing at this point, and I could see I wasn't alone. Barbara's face was pink, and Q was grabbing onto me to keep from falling over. "Don't go pulling a Sal, now," I warned him. "You want to wake up one morning to find Murr licking your kitchen table?"
"The day he does that is the day the restraining order takes effect," Q informed me. "All joking aside, does anyone want to catch a movie or something? The theater up the road has half priced movies after four. We could bum around town for a bit then go watch one." "Sounds like a great idea," Bessy said. "Joe and I have to run home and let Cannoli and Biscotti out for a bit though, so if it's cool with you we'll just meet you at the theater." "Sounds good," Q told her. We'll see you guys later. Start thinking about what you want to watch, there's a new horror movie out that looks pretty good." Joe nodded. "Will do. See ya." They got in their car and drove away. The rest of us wandered down the block. We passed a used cd shop, and Barbara all but dragged Sal inside. We followed them in.
"Hi, anything I can help you out with today?" the salesgirl asked Barbara.
"Uhm, yes, I'm looking for the latest Senora Lanza album," Barbara said. I surpressed a smile.
"Uhm..who?" asked the girl.
"Senora Lanza..they opened for the Imagination Dragons.. not ringing a bell?" Barbara continued innocently.
"You mean Imagine Dragons," the salesgirl said.
"No, I'm pretty sure I got the name right," Barbara insisted. "'l'll just look around, thanks."
Giggling, we all went to the back of the store. Sal wrapped his arms around Barbara's waist and smiled. "Have I told you how glad I am to have met you?"
Barbara blushed. " Aww, that's so sweet. " I smiled and told Barbara, "That was awesome. The poor girl must be confused beyond belief. "
"Either that or she thinks we're all nuts." Sal cracked. He looked around. "Where'd Emily and Murr run off to now?" Barbara pointed to the section labeled 'classics'. "Over there, under the Buddy Holly poster." I turned to look as well and spotted a rack of posters and a bin marked 'Clearance- get it while it's cheap!" I wandered over and started digging through it.
"Let's see.. no, no, have it, have it, no chance, have it, ew, ha- wait a sec." I pulled out an Evans Blue tank top, similar to the one I'd been wearing yesterday. Except this was purple with a black ivy vine design snaking around the band name. I checked the size tag. It said medium, but it looked a bit bigger. I held it up to my chest and looked in the mirror hanging above the box. Q snuck up behind me. "Looks good."
"You think?" I studied my reflection. "I think you're right. I can't believe this. It's so hard to find good EB merchandise...or hell, any EB merchandise, honesty." Q nodded. "You got that right." He held out his hand. "Gimme."
"I don't think this'll fit you," I teased. He stuck his tongue out. "C'mon."
"Why?"
Q shook his head. "Women. Just gimme...please?" he asked. I could almost see a longing in his dark eyes. I smiled and handed him the shirt. Without another word, he strolled off to the counter and handed it to the salesgirl. A minute later he came back and handed it to me.
"It's yours," he told me. I grinned. "Really? Aww, Q, you didn't have to do that. Thank you!"
"Don't mention it," he told me. "I figure I have to keep you interested, or you might get tired of me and start pining for Murr." I rolled my eyes. "Don't be silly, I'd never lose interest in you." Q beamed. I couldn't resist having a little fun at this point. I added, "Besides, it's be Sal, not Murr."
Q rolled his eyes and jabbed me in the shoulder. "Ha.Ha." I laughed. "C'mon, you know I've only got eyes for the Q-man." I hugged him." He hugged me back and gave me a kiss on the head.
"Hey guys, come check this out!" I heard Sal's voice call. "Quinn, we found something you might like." Q and I followed Sal's voice to the center of the store. There was another clearance box, and Sal was standing next to it, grinning and pointing to the grey shirt on the top of the pile. I walked over and pulled it out of the box. "Hey, Q, he was right. Look at this." I turned it around. A cartoon version of Q's face was on the shirt.
"Hey, it's a TESD shirt!" Q exclaimed. "How the hell did that end up here?" I looked at the price tag. "It's three dollars. Is a shirt with your face on it worth that much?"
Sal answered before Q could open his mouth. "No."
"I can't help but notice that while, yes, a 'Tell-em, Steve Dave' shirt is only three dollars...at least they have something with my face on it. The last time Sal had something with his face on it, it was a Halloween mask," Q quipped. I smiled and held the shirt close to me. "I'm gonna buy it. It'll be a good sleep shirt. It comes to my knees."
I took the shirt to the counter and handed it off to the salesgirl. As she scanned it through, I saw a basket of pins next to the register. I carefully started to sift through the various buttons. I found something within the first few seconds. It was the Superman logo against a blue background. The next one I pulled out had a giant mustache against a green background. I put both pins on the counter. "These, too, please. " The girl scanned them. "Four dollars and twenty-eight cents." I paid and took the bag she handed me, then rejoined the others.
Q checked his watch. "We should probably head out now so we can meet up with Joe and Bessy and get seats." We all nodded and once again hit the road.
