Naib, Eli, and Lucky were downstairs, chatting about their previous matches. The trio was setting the table for dinner while other survivors hung out in each other's rooms.
"I swear, ever since he got that cane all he does is play around with us! He picks us up, puts us down, spends whole matches like that!" Naib rants with a slight blush on his face. He is holding cutlery on his right hand and putting it down with his left.
"Let the man have fun, Naib." Eli attempts to calm him down while he puts porcelain plates in place.
"It's better than having an angry Jack chasing us." Lucky states, regretting getting into the conversation right away.
Naib glares at him bitterly. "It's not! He is taking advantage of-"
A low thump echoes on the main hallway.
Eli's hands stop immediately. His owl looks in the door's direction. "Did you hear that?"
"What?" Lucky looked around, paranoid.
At first, Eli thought it was just his imagination, that his ears were tricking him. But then, the sound repeated itself, followed by a bang and a grunt.
The three survivors busted the door open only to find Aesop lying on the ground, gripping on his arm.
"Oh, God! Aesop?! What happened to you?!" Naib asked almost in despair, picking him up with Eli's help and putting him down on the closest chair.
The Seer withdrew Aesop's hand from his arm and examined it. "It's bleeding a little." He said, pausing to take his blindfold off.
"A little?! He is about to pass out!" Naib claimed. He held the man's face by the chin and lifted it so he could take a look at his facial expression. He was bitting his bottom lip, sobbing.
"Aesop has always been a bit squeamish, you know?" Eli spoke as if he wasn't present. He wrapped his blindfold around the wound. The Embalmer sucked air through his teeth and squirmed, but soon got used to the pressure.
"Are you seriously bringing that up?! Right now?! In front of him?!"
Aesop gripped Naib's wrist and looked at him in the eyes. It was a simple act of reassurance. Aesop was the injured one, but Naib was the one who needed to calm down.
"Lucky, can you ask Emily to come here?" Eli's deep eyes turned to him.
Oh, right. Aesop felt so lightheaded he didn't even notice his presence.
The blond man ran to the Doctor's room to ask for help. Luckily, it didn't take long, as her room was only a few steps away.
"Oh, dear... You hurt yourself again?" Emily reached out for a chair and placed it next to Aesop to take a better look at his arm.
"It's not that bad, really... ah!" The tug at the blindfold caught him off guard.
"Now he's acting all tough. Your fault." Naib had his arms crossed over his chest. He was still a bit worried but was smiling ironically at Eli. Eli did the same.
Emily got up and searched around her medkit. "It is pretty bad. We should disinfect it before it gets worst."
"You're not planning on keeping me away from the matches, right?" Aesop looked up at her.
She returned the look in disbelief. "That's seriously the first thing crossing your mind?"
"Emily, please..." He decided to use a trick Emma had taught him: puppy eyes.
"Ugh... I'll think about it. Now let me do my work."
He wanted to play more. Wanted to show Joseph it would take a lot more for him to take him down.
