Hello and welcome to the first part of the "Spies n Spice"
As the title suggests, it is about intelligence and security agencies and Spies. But it's not all about guns and espionage.
If you have read the Prologue, you can understand that it's a human story just like any other, and it deals with the personal and professional lives of some extraordinary people. Those who lay their lives in protecting our borders and keeping us safe, from external threats as well as internal.
The Spice part I will explain later ;)The backdrop at the beginning of the story is international and domestic criminal activities in the Indian Subcontinent and Afghanistan with specific emphasis on one of the current pressing issue —terrorism, which is not restricted to any country or religion.
But as I said, its a backdrop and not the entire story.
Please let me assure you that this story is not against any particular religious or ethnic group. Some people are evil, no matter what country, religion or race they belong to. The main antagonist in this story is from India, and he provides arms to foreign and local terrorist groups who are planning to create havoc in his motherland, which just reiterates my point.
The above map in the cover gives a good reference for the places and incidents that occur in the beginning of the story.
I have done my best to research as much as possible about the places, people and their cultures to present various scenarios in the story in an authentic and realistic way. But I have also taken some creative liberty to make the story interesting to read.
I am no expert on the war on terrorism or the various groups that have taken control of regions in Afghanistan nor am I well versed with Spy agencies and their actions. This story is as much about protagonists fighting their inner demons as the external ones who have ruined their lives.
I am still an amateur writer and if I have made any mistakes, please don't hesitate to share your views. Some useful info:
*********
R&AW: Research and Analysis Wing is the foreign intelligence agency of India. (Similar to CIA)
IB: Intelligence Bureau is internal intelligence agency of India. (Similar to FBI)Agents to both the agencies are recruited by different means and in few instances agents transfer from one agency to another
CBI ( Central Bureau of Investigation) is another investigative branch in India.
*******
ISI: Inter-Services Intelligence is the main international intelligence agency of Pakistan.
*********The beginning of the story is set around 2015, when ( IS ) Islamic State began to make inroads into the tribal dominated Pashtun Area of Kandahar. My overall feeling, as I read through all the news articles while gathering information for the story was this: as always, it's the common man who suffers the most in the conflict between all these groups.
Last but no least, I want to thank all the readers who have supported me from the beginning as well as my future readers. If I am writing my 4th story today, it is completely because of the love and support from all the amazing readers like you, reading this introductory note. ❤
This is a multi layered story which gets unravelled as you continue to read, and I sincerely hope that you will find it an intriguing read till the very end. And that's why I cannot reveal all the characters right now!
It's a complete story of fiction and my own. First chapter coming your way tomorrow !!
I hope you like it.
❤
