"Oh no I look awful Eva."

"If you look awful then I dread to to think what I look like." I laughed. "Come on we never take photos. I just want a nice one to remember this." I pleaded.

"Fine." She huffed. I pulled the camera up in front of us and smiled, watching the screen as my girlfriend glistened in the golden setting sun.

"Alex you look beautiful I have no idea what you're talking about." I said looking back at the photo we'd just taken. "Hmm okay it's not too bad." She said reaching for her drink.

"I can't believe you did this for me." I said in disbelief. Alex had picked me up from my part time job with a blanket and food, we headed over to the river bank, and sat watching the sun set into the water. It wasn't a special occasion, it was just Alex.

"Don't be stupid, you act like I've just given you the moon. It's just a picnic." She laughed. A breeze knocked her long blonde hair forward, causing her to scramble the few strands out of her face. I stared into her brown eyes and wondered how she couldn't see what she does is always beyond the expected.

"You really must love me." I smiled. "Oh god, you're so cheesy sometimes." She grinned, looking away to hide her smile. She leaned back on both her hands, stretching out her long legs. I leaned over and settled my head on her shoulder. You could hear the birds singing in the surrounding trees. "It is quite a perfect moment." Alex added after a long pause.

"Ugh so cheesy Alex." I laughed. "Oh shut up." She laughed. We sat there for a further 20 minutes exchanging small whispers and the occasional gaze.

"Do you think we'll bring our family here one day." I mumbled into her shoulder. Our 3rd anniversary passed 2 months ago and the discussion of settling down became a possibility. "I can almost picture it." She replied. "The little feet paddling in the water."

"I'll be the classic mum with the video recorder out, capturing every moment." I smiled. "I'll drag you in with me. No one is to be left with dry feet." She jolted with a breathy laugh. I turned and smiled at her before leaning forward and slipping off my converse and socks. "What are you doing?" Alex laughed. I jumped up and ran into the water, almost slipping in the small dip. "No one is to be left with dry feet." I laughed. "Come on!"

Alex took off her shoes and socks and followed me down into the river, flinching at the cold water. We laughed at ourselves and how mad we must've looked. I leaned down and splashed water up catching her legs. "Really?" She stared at me "Are we going to do this?". I shrugged and started walking backwards, kicking a few splashes as I did. Alex leaned down and wiped her palm through the water causing a wave to crash up and soak my shorts and splash my top. She laughed in response.

The water seemed to blur and the grass seemed to stretch in the distance, the view outside Alex would distort into swirls. The world seemingly fading away with the memory.

"Evangeline Airey, you're absolutely insane. I love you so much." Alex stated, placing her cold wet hands on my face, stroking away my hair. "I love you too." I grinned leaning in, her lips nearly on mine.

I opened my eyes, feeling the water on my face where her thumbs sat as she stroked my skin. I touched my face to discover I'd been crying in my sleep, surprisingly not disturbing Cleo who laid sound asleep next to me in my bed. I rolled out of bed and viewed the picture on my wall. Alex truly did look beautiful that day.

I tiptoed down the hall way turning on the light in the main area. I walked over to the kitchen and began pouring myself a glass of water when a voice startled me. "What are you doing up?" Harriet moaned rubbing her eyes from the sudden light. "I needed a drink. Are you sleeping on the sofa?" I quizzed confused to as why she wasn't in Cals room.

"Izzy's in there." She said looking extremely uncomfortable, her eyes switching directions of where to look. "With your brother." She said bitting her lip.

"Why?" I said already knowing the answer. She gave me a guilty look that confirmed what I thought. My best friend and my brother...

"Wow, okay. I can't be fucked for this." I said close to tears. I turned off the light and made my way back down the hallway, stopping outside Harry's door. I knocked hoping he'd answer. No reply. I opened the door slowly and whispered his name, slowly he came to.

"Harry it's Eva." I said a little louder than a whisper. He made a few mumbles as he leant up on his elbows, clearly still waking up. "Are you okay? What time is it?" He said rubbing his eyes. "I don't know. Can I come in?" I asked.

"Yeah of course." He said, seemly more awake. I walked over to his bed and pulled back the sheets, climbing in. Me and Harry hadn't shared a bed at this point, we'd only shared the rare kiss.

I took the initiative and moved up to him in the bed. Like instinct his arm raised above and around my shoulder as he pulled me in. My head rested on his shoulder and my right hand on his bare chest. His skin felt warm against mine, coaxing me back into sleep.
