Hello everyone and welcome back for another Spotlight!

This week we have our first recommendation by another Spotlight winner. This week's Spotlight goes to Earth, After by Taliavogt, a beautiful science fiction adventure set in an apocalyptic world.

Some fates are worse than death – survival is one of them. The blurb starts with this chilling little sentence. A sentence that perfectly sets the scene and very well encompasses what the story is about. Raina's team survived their crash to Earth, but are they really better off than the crewmembers who didn't make it?

Earth, After is set at least a few hundred years in the future. Earth has become uninhabitable several hundred years ago, and man now lives in space. Raina's job, as lightning harvester, is to get energy out of the storms around the earth. This is exactly what she and her crew are doing when something goes horribly wrong. The ship is out of control and crashes on earth, with only half the crew surviving. But how much longer will they survive on an uninhabitable planet? A planet that they now know very little about?

The story starts right in the middle of the action, just after the ship has crashed. The author takes us straight into Raina's head and we see everything happening through her eyes. We feel her pain when she finds out half her crew died. When her team blames her for their predicament. When she realises she has no idea how to save the people she cares about.

There is such a huge amount of raw emotion in this story, even in just the first couple of chapters. The author does such a wonderful job describing all that emotion. All the pain and the fear and the guilt Raina feels. The way she holds on to that little sliver of hope, determined to help her crew survive. It's inspiring. It makes Raina so real, so convincing, so human. She is an amazing, strong character.

Just in case you're not sold yet, let's end this review with one more quote. This is a paragraph from chapter one and it is such an amazing couple of sentences! Hooked me right in. I hope it does the same for you. Here it is:

Only when Raina woke from the crash did she realize, after a lifetime of defying it, that death had never been the enemy. Looking at the bodies crumpled and twisted in the wreckage around her, she found the real menace in the rise and fall of their chests. Not even the fear of dying could compare to the terror in living.

We hope you'll enjoy this book just as much as we did! With its strong characters and superb plot line, it definitely deserves a spot in our Spotlight.

Congratulations, Taliavogt, for making it to our Spotlight. If you enjoyed this, please consider sending us your favourite Wattpad book to recommend (under 10k reads please).

Thank you everyone, and we'll see you all for the next Spotlight!
