CHAPTER 7
The city was in utter chaos. Fires burned and buildings exploded. Boulders were whistling through the air as spaceships zipped around, shooting lasers at things. I aimed with my rifle and sniped a pilot right out of his aircraft. It came spiralling down, crashing into the enemy lines, killing a bunch of enemy troops instantaneously. I hoped that they had a quick and painless death but you can never be sure. The earth shook as explosions rattled the city. Adrenaline flowed through my veins as I ran out, shooting my gun like a madman. I stopped behind a large piece of concrete and pulled out a grenade from my belt. I knew first hand how powerful a grenade is since I’ve witnessed one go off before. Since this was the future and all, I took a moment to think about what kind of damage it could do. It was basically a cylinder with a pin on top. I pulled the pin and threw as hard as I could. Instead of hiding back behind the chunk of concrete, I instead sat there and looked at the grenade. What can I say? Curiosity got the better of me. Don’t even think about judging me. Just don't. Anyway back to the story. The grenade hummed loudly and exploded. Blue fire spiralled out of it, spraying everywhere and generally causing mass panic throughout the enemy lines. I screamed in terror as I saw people getting burned alive. They were running around, scrambling to put the fire out that was on them. One by one, the ones that got hit fell and stopped moving completely. I stared at the flaming corpses in horror, thinking to myself, Was that really needed?
The battle lasted for what seemed like hours on end. I was fatigued, parched, and starving. Suddenly, a woman approached me. It was her. The one with the sapphire blue eyes, flowing amber hair and high cheekbones. I just realised then that I didn't know her name. “Not bad for a newbie” she said
“Well. I’m surprised myself. Although, a good meal and a comfy bed would be nice. Maybe I should knock myself out” I said, gasping.
“Oh and enjoy a comfy bed while we get our asses kicked?”
“Asses kicked? What are you talking about? We’re pushing them back”
She grinned and stood up. “Well that was a nice chat. But I gotta get going. Places to be, people to kill”
She turned and ran. I called after her and asked her “Hey! I never caught your name!” She turned around and shouted back at me “It’s Ashley!”
A faint sound of metal clanging on solid ground was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.
