Lance PoV:
"...We don't know how long." That's exactly what the doctors told me when my stomach situation went to shit 7 years ago, been here ever since. 'We don't know how long' means forever in medical terms. I watch the doctor walk out and me and Hunk walk in. Hunk to change her bandages and me to talk to Shiro and Katie. "Hello Miss Holt, I see your awake." Says Hunk while looking at her medical notes.
"Gunderson. I prefer Pidge Gunderson." Pidge spits.
"Noted." Hunk chuckles.
I sit next to Pidge's bed. It feels weird, it seems like I'm always the one in the bed, not next to it. "Hey, the names Lance."
Then Hunk took off her bandages. And holy shit was it a sight to behold. Her abdomen was both swollen and sunken in, probably from the lack of stomach. There were indents from where the drains dug into her sides. The scar was red and infected and VERY bloody looking. Nevertheless, Hunk persisted through his extremely noticeable nausea and slathered ointment on the area, before he wrapped it up he called me over, "I need your un-professional opinion on these stitches."
Confused, I walked over, pulling my IV pole with me and, with Hunk leading my hand, placed my hand right over the scar. It felt fever-hot. That's never good. Then Hunk allowed me to touch the stitches. Pidge screamed.
Pidge's PoV:
I'm going to kill him. If he knew I was infected, and he knew I was already in pain then why the FUCK did he even THINK to touch the actual point of pain. But the pain. It was unbearable. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Hunk quickly pull a new IV drip bag out of a cabinet and hook in up to my pole and line. Lance stood next to him, tightly grasping his own IV pole. He's a patient here too? Why is he even in here?
-Later that day-
The doctors come in to my room to talk about my next surgery. To put in a synthetic stomach, my doctor, Dr. Allura and Dr. Coran tell me that it's mainly for cosmetic purposes and, even thought I'll be able to eat and drink again, I'd have to drain it out every few hours. "When is that going to happen?" I ask.
"Well, depending on how well and when your scars heal up, I'd say about two weeks," says Dr. Coran, he seems to be in charge.
"Okay"
Shiro and Kieth left a few hours ago and I have nothing to do. Nothing to read. Nothing to code. I've already called my parents and brother. They were all pretty shaken and said they would be there in a day or two. I look at my arms and study all the lines in my arm.
-The Next Day-
I must have fallen asleep, that's new, because now the sun is screwing my eyes over. Fun. Love it. Lance and Dr. Allura walked in. Seriously? What is this guys problem? He's a goddamn patient for fucks sake!
"Mornin' Pidge!" Says Allura, obviously trying to lift my moods, "I'd like to formally introduce one of my patients, Lance, you met him yesterday. I hear you have expressed your concern about you lack of gestational organs," damn, who is this lady? How did she know I talked to Kieth about the same thing? That fuckshit, he must have blabbed on me, "Well, you see Pidge, Lance has a condition where he can't exactly eat or drink any thing either. And he was wondering if he could talk to you about the feeding tubes and all."
What? Hell no! "Uh, yeah sure why not," damnit mouth! Why can't you ever listen to me?
Lance sat next to me, "Why are you even in the hospital? You look healthier than the doctors?"
Lance fiddled with his line, "I have a condition called Gastroparisis, which means my stomach is paralyzed and I'm too sick to leave the hospital. Why are we talking about me? We need to be talking about you! Do you have any questions about anything?"
I thought for a second, "Uh, yeah actually, um, what line is which and what purpose do they serve?"
Lance points to the line in my hand, "This is your peripheral IV, basically it's giving you meds that are going throughout your body so it doesn't start to freak out that your missing an important organ. Out-of-hospital people that still need meds can got a port-a-cath or a PICC line, but peripheral IVs are standard. I have a port-a-catch because I had before I started living at the hospital and they just decided not to remove it."
"That's cool," I said, "last question, what is this one?" Gesturing to the thing in my abdomen. "I think I automatically assumed it was a feeding tube because it was going into my stomach cavity."
"Yeah, that is your feeding tube, but it goes straight to your colon." Lance said and showing how to open it as he was talking. It kinda hurt, but that's just probably because it's pretty new and my body is still adjusting. "Um, uh, just so you know my room is right next to yours. Ok bye!" And he ran out of the room.Sorry it's so short guys! Hope ya liked it though! K bi!
