"Momma" Stella mumbled weakly"It's ok baby I'll be right back I'm gonna get you some medicine"
I walked out of the bedroom into the kitchen where Dean just got off the phone.
"Is Elle ok?"
"Yea she is good for now. Is Stella awake?"
"No. She is burning up with fever. I need some medicine I never bought anything when I was buying all he food and stuff cus I didn't even think about it." I said, my mind racing.
" I can run and grab it real fast, I don't want you driving in the flooded roads it's getting worse by the minute. Just tell me what to get "
I gave him a small list and he kissed me and ran out the door to the truck. I looked outside again and the water had, in that shirt amount of time, passed the tree. I grabbed Roman and set in him the grass to pee before there was no more grass, dried him off and got back in bed with Stella. She was miserable, she mumbled, whined and her breathing was shallow. She shivered then would kick off all the covers. It was a good thing we had taken a long nap today, I doubt we'd get any sleep between her and the water knocking at our doorstep
Dean came back through the door I about 20 minutes, he was fast. I knew he had just ran from the road but he wasn't even out of breath. It didn't make me feel any better that his shoes were wet. That meant that the water was getting closer to the porch.
" I walked out to see how far the water was" he said noticing me looking at his shoes " but yea it's moving up pretty quick. Here is the thermometer and liquid ibuprofen and Tylenol , do you want me to make the soup now?"
" no I doubt she will eat yet." Concern chocking my every thought.
I took the thermometer and stuck it under her arm. It immediately went to 102 then began to climb, that wasn't good. It finally stopped at 104.3. I gave her the ibuprofen and then just looked at her. I was freaking out, Stella had never been sick before besides a cold. I honestly had no idea what to do
"Dean I don't know what to do she's never been sick before. That is a really high fever." I finally whispered to Dean
"It's ok, here lemme have her. "
He quickly undressed her and picked her up off the bed then carried her to the bathroom. Her tiny little body lay so limp in his massive arms.
"My grandma use to do this to Logan when he was sick. He use to get ear infections really bad and he would have really high fevers with them. Turn on the cold water first then add the hot so it just kinda luke warm."
I did what he said. When there was a little bit of water in the bottom of the tub he laid her down, Her blonde hair floated all around. Roman stood with his front paws on the side of the tub and he whined, the poor dog, like myself, had no idea what was going on. The water continued to fill the tub. As it did Dean lifted Stella's sleeping body to the top so she was floating on top of the water, gently pouring water over her and on her face. The way that he treated her was amazing. I knew he was concerned, I could tell in his face, but he never let that stop him from trying to help her. He loved her, and would do anything to help her. I could feel the water heating up from the temperature of her body and eventually he told me to drain it.
"Do it again, I think we should call Elle May. Can you keep her floating? I'm going to go check on the rain."
" of course"
He came back in a few seconds the phone on speaker.
" the water is still rising, she said to take her out dry her off and take her temp again." She commanded over the phone, taking charge like a grandmother who has taken care of many sick children. So I quickly did what she said.
