Shou jumped as he heard a loud ringing noise, his head whipping to find the source.
"Oi, eyepatch. In your pocket." A random guy wearing a cat looking hoodie and makeup said, pointing at his pants.
"Right." Shou said, scooting away from the guy, and took out a thin box thingy. "What is this?" He muttered.
"Your phone, weirdo." The man said. "Y'know, cellular device."
Shou's lips thinned to a line as he stated at the glowing screen, Pein's name at the top.
"Press either accept or end." The man, looking exasperated, said, pointing at the options.
"Right." He said, doing so, and heard a voice. He put it to his ear. "Hello?"
"Shou, why have you taken so long to answer?" Pein's deep voice demanded, sounding annoyed. "Never mind, is Rui around?"
"Um, no." Shou said, unsure of what to say to the powerful ninja. Or whatever leader position the man was in this world. "She ditched me for Konoha."
"Typical." Pein muttered. "Never mind then. You'll be meeting me instead then. You know the project details, yes?"
Shou swallowed, feeling uncharacteristically nervous and hesitant. Of course he doesn't know the project details! "Yes."
"Good, meet me at (idontknow) street." Then he hung up before he could, try, ask for directions.
Shou groaned, covering his face and wished Rui was here. Leaving him around a crowded area and with no info about this place. As Pein said, typical.
"Need any help?" The man, he should really try get his name by now, asked.
"Yes, where is (idontknow) street?" He asked, relieved.
"It's right there." He pointed west.
"Thank Kami. I owe you." Shou said, truly thankful.
"Well, maybe a drink? Since I've helped with basic things?" The man said. "Name's Kankuro."
"Shou. I guess I can do that." Shou said, nodding and heading off.
"Hey, what's your number?"
But Shou was off before he could hear it.
(Teensy teensy timesy skippy)
He wandered the street aimlessly, hopelessly confused about where the hell was-
Shou was suddenly grabbed by the arm and pulled into a hard chest. His eyes widened and a blush dusted his cheeks.
"Finally." Pein's voice rumbled, releasing him and shutting the door.
"H hey." Shou said, turning to meet the leader's strange eyes. "What am I here for again?"
"The project." Pein said. "Remember?"
Shou sharply inhaled, looking at his pierced ear instead, and shook his head. "Sorry no."
"You've forgotten on a five minute walk?"
"Yes. My memory's crappy." Shou said, giving an apologetic bow.
"Never mind then. Follow me." Pein said, walking to a stairway.
"Ok." Shou said, hurriedly walking after the taller man. "Y you're not mad at me, are you?"
"No." Pein said. Nothing else.
Shou kept his eyes at the ground, feeling horrible. Then a little confused at why he was feeling horrible about something he didn't care about. Why did he even come here? He could've ignored the call, pretend he left it, even maybe throw it away and say he was mugged.
