After that, there'd been some peace between them. Naruto didn't fully trust Kurama, but he decided to trust that he wouldn't kill him or totally enslave him... maybe he didn't exactly trust him on that last part. He was still a stupid vampire, after all.

Anyways, Naruto was now allowed to explore the massive mansion that Kurama owned, a great upgrade from that dusty room Naruto was stuck in. The only downside was that Kurama would follow him almost always on these explorations. He'd stay silent the most of the time, just watching him closely, and occasionally comment something in whatever Naruto was doing or try to spark a conversation, which usually ended with Naruto insulting him.

Though, whenever Kurama didn't follow, some of the doors, some of which he knew he entered before, would be locked. When he was with him, all the doors would be open to him. Guess Kurama didn't trust him that much either.

Naruto sighed, rolling in his bed -he has a bed, a proper and totally comfortable bed now. He was bored, but not bored enough to sleep it off. The worst kind of bored. Just, not knowing what to do and was edging towards the eat-because-you're-bored bored. Except, he couldn't eat until dinner because Kurama said no snacks while he's gone.

Because the creep likes to watch him eat.

The only reason Naruto ignores that is because Kurama provides him with ramen, lots and lots of ramen. The vampire figured out that that's his favorite food in the entire world quickly after that dinner and found it's a way to get Naruto to cooperate. Which, by the way, Naruto only allows because it's ramen.

Naruto groaned loudly, getting up. Thinking of ramen made him hungry and he doesn't care about what Kurama said. He's gonna get ramen no matter what, who cares if the cooks won't make it for him. He can do it.

He marched his way to where he thinks is the kitchen. It probably won't be that hard to find out where it is, right? No way that the doors to said kitchen would be locked like every other door.

On second thought, it totally sounds like what Kurama would do. Either if it's out of spite or if he's really determined to watch him eat. Weirdo.

He grumbled, trying to think of where the kitchen would be. If there were servants present, he'd ask them. But it seemed that Kurama was the only one who could call them, or if there were even any servants at all. The vampire did seem to be the loner type, but he'd have to at least have cooks or guards right, if he's so famous.

Recalling to when Kurama had bought him -blegh, that left a sour taste in his mouth- he's pretty sure the guy's famous if he's being treated like that.

Naruto just got to the fifth hallway when he heard something. Gasps and whimpers. He tensed, a part of him he thought was long gone was acting up again. The need to help and protect.

He walked quietly towards where the sounds were coming from. He knows in this world, that part of him is useless and that he should only look out for himself, and for a while, that was true. But, he couldn't help it, that's just the way he is.

This was it, just behind this door. He gulped, nearly hesitating. But he slowly grabbed the knob and turned, revealing Kurama holding some person in place, disgusting fangs buried in their neck. Blood was flowing down the vampire's chin and forming a small pool underneath, making Naruto feel sick to his stomach.

He couldn't move until Kurama noticed him, red, slitted eyes narrowing at him. While he really wanted to jump in and save whoever that was, Naruto knew he couldn't successfully take down a vampire. Maybe a sickly and thin one, sure, but one as healthy as Kurama?

No, so he ran, adrenaline rushing in his veins. He ran with memories of all the helpless people being killed by vampires. How they looked in their dying moments, and then he imagined his own face on one of those people. He thought about how his face would pale with all his blood being sucked out and eventually his eyes losing life in them.

"Naruto!"

He kept running. That's all he really does now, isn't it? Running. When he was younger, around his early teen days, he might've just recklessly barged in, determined to help. But, years of running and witnessing murder up close, too close, has changed his daring nature. Being underfed made him forget that and act brashly. But now, he's clearheaded.

Who cares if Kurama treated him differently? Gave him ramen and everything? That doesn't change the fact that he's a stupid vampire. They're all the same.

Naruto saw the front doors and ran faster, reaching them and immediately opening them and ran out into the world. Then kept running into the woods, determined to get away from the vampire.

He ran and ran and ran until it felt like he'd die from the exhaustion alone. He made doubly sure that the vampire lost him and collapsed on the ground, chest heaving and lungs burning.

After he caught his breath and was about to get walking, he, instead, passed out.

-(-)-

When Naruto awoke, it wasn't on the hard forest floor. He was on a soft couch, with a blanket thrown over him and a glass of water on the table next to him. Which he was incredibly grateful for as he grabbed it and gulped it down.

"Careful you don't choke."

Naruto tensed, head darting to where the new voice chimed in and finding a dark-haired man standing in a hallway. He relaxed when he saw that he did not have the red eyes of vampires, but kept his guard up nonetheless. Even humans would sell out their own kind to vampires for their own protection. He learned that the hard way.

"Hey," Naruto greeted, eyes narrowing slightly in examining the man. He had stress lines for someone who looked young, er, older than Naruto though, definitely. And long hair that was tied and dark eyes.

"Hello, my name is Itachi, and you are?" Itachi asked.

"Naruto, can I have some more water?" Naruto asked, holding up his glass.

"Of course," he took the glass and walked to where the kitchen must be.

Naruto kicked off the blanket and followed him, not trusting him to slip something in the drink. It was irrational, sure, but you can't be too sure.

"Do you want something to eat as well, Naruto?" Itachi asked, already filling the glass and handing it to him.

"No, I'm fine right now," Naruto lied, narrowing his eyes in suspicion as he drank his water.

"If you're worried about unknown substances, no need," Itachi commented, an amused smile gracing his attractive face. Wait what? "That would be counterproductive, if I wanted you dead, I would have left you where my brother and I found you."

"Your brother?" Naruto asked, trying to forget that last thought. Sure he was handsome looking, but he wasn't quite Naruto's type.

"Yes, Sasuke. He's around here somewhere," Itachi said. "You'll meet him eventually."

"So, then, why did you help me?" Naruto asked.

"Leaving you there would've left a bad taste in my mouth," Itachi confessed, "I would say anyone else would have done the same, but that isn't really true."

"Yeah," Naruto laughed bitterly, crossing his arms. He couldn't tell if he was lying, but he wasn't sure that the man would sell him out either. So, carefully, he'd trust him for now. Just until he can find out if he's truly safe here or not.

Sooooo, this is turning into a short story, still couldn't find where to put the smut, and I'm having way too much fun writing this AU Naruto. I like bitter Naruto :)

Next update to this au will probably be SasuNaru, since it seems fitting. But it will end in KyuuNaru
