Lances hands were starting to hurt. The cuffs holding them behind his back were way too strong, and they slowly turned blue from lack of blood.
He was seated somewhere in a corner of the room, a few feet from Keith. Keith seemed to be doing fine. His gaze was fixed on the tall Galra pacing angrily through the room, clenching the knife in his hand tightly, and talking with his colleagues in low voices.
Lance was slightly annoyed that Keith didn't look at him. He had just almost been killed. He was currently still bleeding from his shoulder, in which he had little feeling left. But Keith was still only focused on the mission, on getting them out of here. He knew Keith was analizing the soldiers, calculating if he and Lance could take them out if they struck at the right time. Lance could only conclude that Keith thought they couldn't, since he was tapping his foot nervously on the floor.
It was difficult to hear what the Galra were saying, but a few parts of sentences drifted across the room to where he was tied down.
"The Emperor won't be happy if we-"
"What if he doesnt-"
"-has ears everywhere. We cant-"
Those words were followed by a lot of silence and furious glances in their direction, which Lance answered with a cheeky grin.
Keith has done the right thing, he knew that. He'd bought them time and prevented them from getting that information. Keith had been smart for once in his life. Why couldn't that stupid boy have asked him what he felt before storming out dramatically? For God's sake, Lance had admitted to thinking he was hot only minutes before his confession. Lance had kissed him. Lance had given him a fucking lapdance.
Sure, the blue paladin still wasn't sure about his feelings, but he did know that he wanted to try. He wanted to try to see Keith in that way. And God knows he wanted to kiss him again.
This wasn't the time to think about that. They could sort all that shit out back at the Castle, once they escaped this place. But how to get out of here?
Both he and Keith were tied up with that fancy Galra tech that could only be broken by shutting it off with the remote or cutting through it with their bayards, which were locked up somewhere in this goddamn ship. A quick count told Lance that seven Galra soldiers were currently in the room, plus that Condo dude of course.
Speaking of, it looked like he was ordering his underlings to set a new course. They were being taken to Zarkon, Lance realised. Well, shit. They needed to escape before then.Their lions were still in the same room they'd entered through, because Lance hadn't heard anything about moving them. That was nearly impossible anyway.
The other paladins were probably locked up somewhere, with plenty of guards keeping them. Lance had a lot of trust in Shiro, but would he be able to break out of there? Maybe.
There was just too much Lance didn't know to make a good plan. How many Galra were aboard this ship? Where were their weapons? Their helmets? Lance wasn't even sure he'd be able to find his way back to the lions. Navigating had never been his strong point.
All he could do way wait, wait for an opening and be ready to strike. And stare at Keith in the meantime. The boy couldn't see him, and no matter how big of an idiot he was he was still pretty. Like, really pretty.
Now Lance had admitted his feeling for Keith to himself, it was like a new world had opened. Keith was truly beautiful, more so than anyone else. His dark, wild hair, his pale but flawless skin, and those goddamn purple eyes. Totally unfair. How could he look good in a mullet? A fucking mullet.
Lance was lost so deep in thought that he didn't hear the first shout of distress over the Galra radio. But the second panicked call penetrated his loving fantasies.
"Commander, we're having issues with the-" The signal was cut off before the Galra could finish his sentence, but Lance had heard enough.
They had escaped. He shot up immediately, and saw Keith do the same. They were getting out of here. Shiro, Pidge and Hunk had managed to attack their captors, and they were coming for them. Of course they would. It had been nearly an hour since they'd been dragged away, convinced that Condo was gonna hurt the other two paladins somehow. Classic Shiro, coming to save the day.
The soldiers around them were running around, getting ready for attack, and looking a bit scared. The tales of Voltron had of course reached them before this, and they would know how formidable they were at fighting. Yeah, they were awesome.
What was less awesome were the soldiers now approaching them. Great. One of the man - or women, Lance could never tell - stepped forward and lifted him up by his armor. Lance could barely struggle, his hands tied and his body weak from bloodless, and it would have been funny if it didn't hurt so much. He looked like a puppet being held up in the air. He did his best to look down at the Galra, carry an expression of disgust rather than pain, but didn't succeed entirely.
Somewhere in the corner of his eye, he noticed Keith wasn't lifted up, but just held down by two of the Galra.
Just outside the door, loud bangs could be heard, shots and yells of pain and injury. Lance's eyes scanned the room and finally found Condo, who seemed to have looked at him at the same time. And evil smirk crossed his face. He started a quick stride towards Lance, his blade held loosely beside him.
With a small pang, Lance realised he was gonna kill him. The commander could easily lie and tell his Emperor that the paladin had been killed in an attempted escape. Oh shit.
Lance struggled against those holding him, but to no avail. His eyes wide in panic, he could only wait for the man to reach him. He was already halfway.
And that's when the room exploded. The door burst open with an ear splitting screech and bang, and the heavy iron was blasted apart. The force of the explosion threw Condo a few feet in the air, and the man fell down hard on the other side of the room.
Shiro was the first to run in through the now huge hole in the wall, fire in his eyes mixed with fear of what he would find, shortly followed by Pidge and Hunk, who were both sporting minor cuts on their face.
Lance could have jumped in the air from relief, if he wasn't being held high in that same air by a seven feet tall purple furry.
The next few minutes went by in a haze, Lance unable to do anything but watch as the other paladins fought their way through the wall of Galra storming at them, and somehow succeeding.
The ground was littered with dead or injured soldiers, some broken sentries and dozens of weapons.Shiro was slowly but steadily approaching the Galra still holding the blue and red paladins, and Condo was pushing himself up against the wall, a hand around his clearly broken ribs.
"Let them go," Shiro spoke. "Let them go, and we will spare you."
His voice was like nothing Lance had ever heard, more merciless and ruthless than usual. A bit like Keith's normal tone. The hesitation was clear in the soldiers' eyes, and it nearly looked like they would comply. But then another voice sounded.
"Victory or death," the commander spoke.
