Chapter 7

As we pull up to my apartment building I look around the parking lot to see if there is any sign of Jeff.

"Looking for something?" he asks parking the car.

"Just making sure it's safe." I say.

"Why wouldn't it?" he asks raising a brow.

"My ex is  crazy and just got out a prison a few weeks ago and he is trying to get his hands on me. I'm not sure if he knows if I live here or not yet." I explain.

"Is that why you were there this morning?" he asks and I nod.

"Want me to walk you up to your apartment? I've got a gun so if he comes out of anywhere, I'm ready." he says.

"I can't ask you to do that, you have already done enough." I say with a smile.

"I don't mind, honestly. I'm not a bad guy, you should know that." he says and I nod.

"Okay, thank you." I say and we both get out of the beat-up car and make our way into my building.

Eddy stays close to me, keeping an arm around my waist which I let him. Knowing he wouldn't dare to try anything and that he was probably doing it to help me feel safe. We make it to the elevator, to my room and to my door okay with no sign of Jeff.

"Well here's the final test." I say taking my keys out and unlocking the door.

Eddy quickly looks around the hallway one last time before opening my door and walking in first. I go in right behind me and shut and lock the door behind me as he goes around my apartment checking all the rooms and closets.

"Looks clear." he says.

"Thank you. Now I can safely get ready for work." I say.

"No problem, did you want me to wait for you? I can take you to work if you want." he says.

"That's okay, I have to go get my jeep and stop by the police station before I go in." I say.

"Want me to give you a ride to your car?" he asks and I nod.

"That would be great thank you." I say.

"No problem, just try not to be like 3 hours getting ready." he says with a chuckle.

"I promise I won't, 30 minutes tops." I say and he nods sitting down on my couch.

"Mind if I put the TV on?" he asks and I shake my head.

"Go for it, and if you want any food or anything to drink help yourself." I say before heading to my bedroom and grabbing some fresh clothes and taking it into the bathroom.

I quickly shower, shave and dry off before putting a matching black lace bra and thong set on and putting on some high waisted skinny jeans with some rips down the legs and a tight cropped long sleeve black and white striped shirt. I throw my wet blonde hair into a bun knowing I'm pushed for time and quickly do my make up with a thin line of eyeliner and a dark purple wine-colored lipstick.

As I walk out of the bathroom, Eddy lets out a whistle making me blush as I go and slip on some black heavy-duty combat boots quickly tying them up securely.

"Some heavy-duty boots for a good looking girl." he says turning the TV off and coming over and putting his shoes back on.

"Thank you and with my job its best to have heavy duty steel toe boots." I say opening the door as we leave my apartment, making sure i lock it before we go.

"Where do you work?" he asks while we are in an elevator.

"I work at a privately owned large cat sanctuary." I say.

"So like coyotes and wolves?" he questions.

"Yes, and tigers, leopards, panthers, lions, any big cat in need of care comes there. Some stay if they can't be returned back to the wild but we do our best to make it possible for them to return." I say.

"Wow." he says.

"Yeah it's pretty great." I say.

"Must get intense at times." he says and I nod.

"Of course, my job is mostly to fulfill their everyday needs, we have others there that deal with the rescues especially when they first come in and the rehabilitation." I say and he nods.

"So where is your car located at?" he asks as we begin making our way to the parking lot.

I explain to him where i left it and we both hop into his car and he begins driving in the direction of Beth's house.
