After travelling through nothingness for what felt like forever, the two fell through the purple hole. It ended up being quite the fall. Luigi instantly fell down, face planting. Mario, using his cape, was able to glide down.
"I did tell you to come on," Mario said.
"Oh, and give me 3 seconds?" was the reply of Luigi's muffled voice, as he pulled his face out of the hole his face made in the ground.
"Wait, where are we?" asked Mario looking around. Usually when ending up in these portals, they'd land in a small wooded area outside of Toad Town. Now, they were in a completely different spot! They appeared to be outside a village.
"Uh, Mario, what did you do?" Luigi's answer had been turned back to a question.
"Uh-uh, I don't know!"
"Dude! We have to figure out where we are!"
"Well, what do you want me to do?"
"Um........., let me think about it."
"<sigh> you're a lost cause."
"Says the guy flying into a portal, having NO CLUE where it's leading to."
"OK, you win," said Mario, slapping his forehead. The two brothers wandered through the village, as quiet as possible, luckily, not having to worry about any villagers.
"Wonder why there's no one here," said Luigi as the two walked out of the village.
"I dunno. Market dayyy......,"Mario stopped
"Huh? Mario, was ittt...," Luigi stopped. The two were looking at one of the biggest castles ever. While Peach's Castle looked big, Mario had been in there so many times, it felt small. This castle almost blew Peach's Castle out of the water! However, the castle entrance was blocked a what appeared to be a drawbridge. So it appeared that there was no way to get in.
"Well, there doesn't appear to be a way in. Not that we need in," shrugged Luigi. It was then that Mario noticed that there were no windows, or at least, the windows had no glass in them.
"What it, we go in there?" asked Mario, pulling out a cape feather.
"Wait, WHY? We have no business in there! Let's get out of here!" cried Luigi.
"But where would we go?" asked Mario, handing the feather to Luigi. Luigi sighed, taking the feather. He soon was Cape Luigi.
"Come on! Let's-a-go!" said Mario, flying toward the window. Luigi, reluctantly, followed. The two flew through the window easily, then landed on the castle floor.
"Well, what now?" asked Luigi.
"This is a castle. There's got to be some form of royalty in here. Maybe they know something about the Pr...," Mario never finished.
"Mario, LOOK OUT!" shouted Luigi.Mario barely dodged out of the way of what appeared to be an arrow of some sort. The arrow smacked against the wall and harmlessly hit the ground.
"That was close. Who shot that?" Mario asked Luigi.
"HIM!" Luigi shouted. Mario turned to see a young man, wearing a green hat and shirt, white tights, with pointy ears, in a squatting position, with a bow in his hands.
"An elf archer? Now I've seen everything," Mario laughed.
"Bro, he's shooting at us again!" said Luigi, and as he said, the young man began firing instantly. He had amazing aim, and he was able to fire arrows efficiently, being able to fire, and reload at an impressive speed. Mario and Luigi were barely able to dodge most of them.
"Please stop, it was his idea!" cried Luigi, pointing to Mario. The boy seemed not to listen, and continued firing.
"Hey, I'm sorry! He's right, it's my fault! We just need some help looking for someone!" Mario shouted. The boy looked up, Mario seeing he had his attention, was relieved when he put his bow away. Mario ad. Luigi, who found themselves up in the air with the help of there capes. The two brothers floated down softly. The boy grunted and took a small bow.
"Ummm... Luigi, why isn't he saying anything?" Mario whispered.
"I-I don't know! I think he's trying to express that he's sorry," Luigi whispered sharply.
"It's ok, I kinda understand. You were frightened. No biggie," said Mario. The boy nodded. He turned, and beckoned the brothers to follow. The two walked, talking quietly as the boy walked through the silent, almost dark rooms.
"Where do you think he's taking us?" asked Luigi nervously, starting to sweat.
"I'm not 100% sure," answered Mario with a shrug. The three finally entered what appeared to be the throne room. Like the view of the castle from the outside, it was huge. Mario felt like it was twice the size of Peach's Castle. The boy made a grunt like sound.
"What is it, Link?" was the voice of what appeared to be a girl. Mario couldn't see, but it sounded obviously NOTHING like Princess Peach. The boy, or Link walked closer to the throne then moved, showing the what appeared to be the person in charge. It was a young girl, with long brown hair, a white and purple dress. She also had pointy ears, like Link, so clearly she was also an elf.
"Have you made some friends?" the girl asked. As Mario stood there, he felt like an idiot. He looked at Luigi, whose face was red.
"Well, hello. My name is Zelda, princess of Hyrule," the girl said. Link kicked the bros legs into a bowing position.
"Well... it's an honor to meet you princess," Mario said, trying to keep casual. However, he could tell Luigi wasn't do as great.
"A-A-An honor, princess," stammered Luigi, shaking. Then Mario remembered the princess' words, "princess of Hyrule..."
"I'm sorry, but did you Hyrule?" Mario asked.
"Yes," Zelda replied. Mario immediately knew. The portal the two had taken. It had took them into a new location!
"Hyrule? Bro, that portal took us into a new place!" Luigi said.
"Did you say portal?" Zelda asked.
"Yes, Princess, also, I'd like to ask a question. Have you seen another young lady, with a pink dress, long blonde hair, as well as a golden crown?" Mario asked.
"Uh, bro? Watch for elf boy!" Luigi uttered quietly, seeing Link taking what appeared to be a sword, out of a sheath on his back.
"Uh, no, I'm sorry. Is this a friend of yours?" Zelda asked.
"It's kinda a long story, princess," Luigi said.
Mario and Luigi each worked together at telling the story of their day so far.
"... And THAT is why we're here, princess," Mario concluded, taking a bow, while Luigi followed.
"Hm, that seems awfully suspicious, indeed," Zelda said. Link seemed alarmed at the story.
"Uhh... I'm terribly sorry to ask this, but is he OK? Why isn't he talking?" Mario asked.
"BRO!" Luigi said, smacking his forehead. Link, angrily, grabbed his sword, nearly drawing it out.
"It's fine, really," Zelda calmly replied,"Link doesn't seem to have the ability to speak. I try to communicate with him the best I can."
"Huh, that is odd," Mario said. Link, slowly, put his
sword away. He seemed to calm down a little bit.
"He's definitely got some rage issues," whispered Luigi. He was quiet, so Link didn't hear him. Mario, suddenly, felt like something wasn't right. He had the feeling. Was it the feeling Luigi had earlier? Whatever it was, it was probably after the princess. Mario slowly reached in his overalls, pulled out the infamous Double Cherry he'd discovered in the Sprixie Kingdom a few years ago. Mario's feeling came true, as almost suddenly, the white flash came in the room, blinding everyone.
"Hold on, Princess, here!" Mario shouted, throwing the cherry where he'd last remembered seeing the princess. Soon, they heard the princess scream. Then, about 10 seconds later, the bright light faded. Link, who'd remembered how Peach had been captured during the bright light, immediately pulled out his sword, then backed Mario against the wall, the tip of the sword at his chin.
"Hey, listen, I'm sorry. I did what I could," Mario said.
"Let him alone, elf boy!" Luigi snapped, walking towards him. However, one menacing look from Link, Luigi stepped back.
"Link, it's fine I'm right here," the calm, quiet voice stopped him. Link turned around to see Zelda standing where she was before. Link quietly put his sword back in the sheath.
"Hey, it worked!" cried Mario, doing a little jig.
"What worked?" Luigi questioned with an eyebrow raised.
"I got those feelings you got earlier. I was able to get a double cherry, then threw it at Zelda. Whatever grabbed Zelda obviously grabbed the wrong one!"
"Huh. So those feelings weren't just me. Neat," said Luigi.
"Hm, obviously, whatever took the copy of myself went through the ceiling. There's this rubble on the ground, and the hole in the ceiling," Zelda said.
"Wait, what?" Mario and Luigi said simultaneously, they hurried to where Zelda was, and looking through, saw the hole in the ceiling.
"We'd better get moving along. It was nice to see you," said Mario, preparing to fly off.
"Wait!" Zelda called, just as the brothers were leaving the ground.
"What is it, princess?" asked Luigi.
"Take us with you. We'll help rescue your friend," Zelda answered,"Link, use your Hookshot."
Link nodded, shooting a chain, that wrapped around Mario's ankle.
"Good idea. I'll be able to carry you," said Mario,"Let's-a-go!" Within moments, they headed into the portal, where a new world awaited out heroes.
