The portal opened, and Fox and Falco landed with ease. Mario saw how the two landed, and was able to get a decent landing. Luigi, however, nearly crashed, had he not put out the landing gear, which resulted in a very rocky landing. They all hopped out of their arwings.
"Ah, my eyes!" cried Falco, covering his eyes.
"What's the matter?" Mario questioned.
"Man, after seeing nothing but dark skies, I was hoping for some more color. But... the colors a kinda brighter than I expected," said Falco.
"Well, I must say, it looks quite nice. It always seems very dark and gritty and dirty in Hyrule," said Zelda.
"Eh, not impressed. I'm used to bright colors," Mario shrugged.
"Well, there's certainly a lot of animals here," said Luigi.
"HEY!" yelled Fox and Falco.
"I wasn't talking about you! I was talking about them!" Luigi protested. And, as he said, there were a bunch of tiny critters hopping towards our heroes. There were small little piglets, chickens, bunnies, squirrels, and multiple different types of other birds.
"Well, this is also quite nice. I hope these chickens aren't cuckoos," Zelda said, petting one of the bunnies.
"Cuckoo?" asked Fox.
"They're like chickens. If you destroy one, or hurt one, a whole swarm will attack you," Zelda explained.
"Well, I don't think they are. I mean look at me!" said Falco cheerfully. Everyone turned to see all the different birds perch on Falco's arms and his head.
"Falco, we don't have time to doddle around! Whoever left those warp holes obviously brought us here for a reason," Mario said sharply.
"OK, OK!" Falco said,"Sorry birdies, you'll have to teach me to fly another day."
The birds flew away immediately. In fact, so did the other critters!
"Hm, I wonder what spooked them," said Fox. Before anyone could answer, there was a loud BANG! Everyone turned to see a giant mech suit marching towards them, firing mini rockets. The first shot hit a grey machine with a yellow switch of some sorts.
"Leave those animals alone!" came a high pitched voice. From Fox's view, there was, to his surprise, another fox! But this one was orange and a lot smaller. Fox pulled out his blaster, and fired at the mech, but to no avail. The mech kept coming.
"Okay, Tails, I think that's enough," came another voice. This one came on top of the machine and the yellow switch. He was a blue, spiny creature, with red shoes. He was what appeared to be... well, no one was sure. The mech stopped, and then it transformed... into a plane. Fox then found another difference between him and the other fox, or Tails. He had not one, but two tails.
"This is definitely the weirdest day I've ever lived," Fox thought to himself.
"OK, put your hands up!" the young fox said, pulling out a small red handgun. Luigi immediately put his hands into the air, while Mario prepared to battle.
"Knock it off Tails! I doubt they were harming the critters," said the hedgehog jumping down from the device.
"Uh, yeah, we weren't! I was about to fly away with my people!" complained Falco. Everyone stared at him.
"What?"
"Anyway, sorry about that. My name is Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog, and this is my buddy Miles Prower, or Tails," said the hedgehog, offering his hand to Mario.
"Right. I'm-a-Mario. Fox, Falco, Luigi, and Zelda," Mario said, shaking Sonic's hand slowly, pointing to everyone as he said the name.
"Hey, uh, haven't we met before?" Sonic asked, looking at Mario trying to get a better view of the Italian plumber.
"Um, now that I think of it, you do look familiar," Mario said, also looking the blue hedgehog up and down,"Yeah, I got nothing."
"Well, whatever. The question is, why are you here? I've never seen you around here?" Tails asked.
"Trust me, it's a long story," Luigi said. Eventually, Mario got the story out.
"Huh, that's some story," Tails said when Mario finished.
"Well, it's like no other. Hey, someone should write a book about this! I can imagine it now; Super Mario Bros..."
"Okay, I think they get it, Luigi," Falco interrupted.
"So, yeah, whatever, or whoever is doing, he's looking for something here," Mario said,"But what; that's the issue.
"Sonic! He's probably looking for the Emeralds!" Tails cried.
"Emeralds?" asked Fox.
"Oh THESE bad boys," said Sonic, revealing 7 shiny gems. They were all a different color: green, red, yellow, purple, light blue, dark blue, and silver."
"What are those things?" Luigi asked, looking at the powerful emeralds.
"These are Chaos Emeralds, emeralds of great power. Their origins are unknown, however. However, when all seven Chaos Emeralds are collected and they are used, they are basically seven times more powerful! They are nearly unbeatable!"
"Uh, Sonic, you know that isn't true."
"Tails! I was getting to the good part!"
"Don't you think you're exaggerating just a bit?"
"Fine, if you insist. So anyway..."
It was then that the light struck. Everyone, again was blinded. Everyone heard Tails scream, "Sonic, help me!" and just like that, the light faded. As Mario looked around, he noticed that Tails was gone!
"Tails! The Emeralds! They're gone! Whoever is here took them!" Sonic cried.
"And my family!" cried Falco. Everyone stared at him again.
"What?"
"Falco's right, look!" Mario said. He pointed at where the grey device had been. It too, had disappeared!
"The animals! Man. It must be Eggman behind this."
"Eggman?"
"He's an evil genius. He's always trying these evil schemes. Most if them involve the Chaos..."
"Eggman, or whoever was just here because of the white flash did take Tails, as well as those small woodland creatures, but the Emeralds should not be of your concern. I have kept them for you."
