Prompto looked at you, feeling the warmth from your hand on his chest and the slight tremble as it remained firmly in place. You had warped yourself to get in between him and Charlie, right when he was about to 'kiss' her. Prompto peered over to see you had your index finger and middle finger pointed at Charlie's throat. Charlie was leaning up from originally lying on the table. The look on Charlie's face clearly told Prompto she had expected this was going to happen. The guys had each stood up from the table, watching intently, waiting for you to move or say something. Prompto kept staring at your side profile. You had your eyes closed and chin tucked into your neck. The single tear that ran down your right eye told him everything. He hated how he needed to resort to cheap schemes like his charade with Charlie. But in the end, Charlie was right in saying how you would respond would finish it all.
You breathed a few times before opening your eyes and looking straight at Charlie.
"Really?" You choked, the strain in your voice breaking Prompto's very core. "You really had to do this?"
Charlie responded with just one word. "Yes,"
"Why?!"
"Because you never did truly let go," Charlie explained.
"What are you talking about?! I have let go," You croaked.
"Get a grip (Your Name)! You have not and you know it! You don't think I didn't hear you crying at night for him throughout the first year of us living here?" Charlie groaned. "You think I don't catch you in your moments when you're reminiscing and silently wishing you still had that?" By this point, Prompto was grateful it was only them in the dining area. It seemed the locals knew when not to step in. Either that or they knew the reasons behind this confrontation. Prompto didn't have to look at you to know you were struggling with the overload of emotions you were feeling.
"If you have really let go. Why the hell have you been ignoring my existence since I saved Prompto from those Basilisks? Why the hell have you been staring daggers at the back of my head every time I interacted with him? And this...!" Charlie said, gesturing towards herself and you. "Just now makes it bloody obvious you haven't,"
"It's not that I haven't moved on..."
"Then what is it (Your Name)? Enlighten me!" Charlie huffed angrily.
"Of all the men in the world, you just can't have him," Your words moved Prompto deeply.
"What is that supposed to mean? Isn't that bloody selfish of you? You have moved on, could potentially date someone else, but when someone shows interest, they can't have him?" Charlie did make a solid point. "You're being ridiculous, and don't you dare say it's because of Juno!" Juno? Prompto looked to the others to see they were just as curious of who Juno was.
"Charlie! Stop!"
"Well, the cat is out of the bag now. You might as well share it. He has the right to know," Prompto felt your hand slide down his chest as you let it drop. He grabbed it, not wanting to lose the warmth he felt from your touch. You turned to look at him, your face tear-stained and many more dropping from your eyes.
"(Your Name)..." Saying your name so intimately felt like a dream. He never imagined he'd be given the chance to do it again. Holding your hand in his left, he reached up and cradled your face with his right, wiping the tears that were falling from your left eye. "I've been meaning to ask, and I don't know if I'll get another chance like this again," You sniffed, nodding your head for Prompto to go on. "That photo, of that guy... getting close to you. That was set up wasn't it?" More tears ran down your face as you silently nodded. "Shit..." Prompto felt like crying. How did it come to this? All these years, and it's my fault in the end? "I'm so sorry babe... I didn't-" You cut him off by placing your free hand on his mouth.
