"Sam, will you please open your eyes?" my mom asked. She didn't even sound desperate anymore. She didn't sound sad. She didn't even beg me like she used too. She stopped sounding sincere about it 3 years ago. But she still asked every other day. And every other day she would walk out of the room mumbling 'It was worth a shot right?'.

"I love you, mom." I responded the same I did every other day. I felt bad. But I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Then she walked out. I sat on my bed in the same position I was in before she came in. I pressed play on my Kindle and laid back on my bed. I was listening to a book called Evil Star. It had been my favorite book for some years now. I had listened to it for the first time in 7th grade. Though it isn't really my type of book. I'll listen to mostly any book as long as it's a romance book. This one actually didn't. But it was so darn good.

I stayed in that same position until mom called me down for dinner. I got up and called my dog Tommy over to me. I heard his feet pattering across the tile floor we had. Once he reached me he nudged my hand with his nose. I took his leash in my hand started walking. I of course knew my way around the house, but my mom had moved the house around while I was gone and I had a now 7 year old brother. I had to get used to my surroundings again. I didn't really enjoy stepping on and tripping over toys.

When I reached the kitchen downstairs I stood in the doorway waiting for someone to lead my to my chair. While I was waiting a undid Tommy's leash and let him go. I really didn't need the leash as long as he was brushed against my leg the whole time.

My dad helped me to my chair when he reached the kitchen. I hated being treated like this. Like I couldn't do anything for myself, but my mom refused to listen and she went and redid the house anyway. And I know you're wandering why I don't just open my eyes. To be honest I tried already. Twice to be exact.

Once when I was alone in my room. I opened them but all I saw was red. I tried to blink it away, but it didn't go anywhere, so I gave up on it.

The second time I had just got home from my first day of middle school. I didn't think they would bother me because it was the first day of school, but boy was I wrong. It was worst then elementary. I thought I could just open them and prove everyone wrong. But once again all I saw was red. Nobody knows about the attempts. And no one will ever know. Because I'll never try again.

"So Sammy how is it living by yourself?" dad questioned.

"It's okay. I actually enjoy it more than I thought I would." I replied taking a bite out of my pizza.

"I'd bet you'd enjoy it more if you moved back in with us." mom chipped in.

"Mom, no." I simply replied. She had been pestering me about it before I even moved out.

"I just don't like the thought of you being out there by yourself."

"Well I don't like the thought of you treated my like I'm incapable of doing anything by yourself." I muttered.

"Because you can't do anything by yourself." she shouted back. Everyone was silent.

"I-I sw-swear-" my mom started.

"Dad take me home." I mumbled. I got up and called out for Tommy. When he reached me he lead my upstairs to my room. I grabbed my backpack and slung it on my back. I was tired of her treating me like this.

I went back downstairs and called out for my dad.

"I'm ready to go." I told him.

"Sorry hun, mom wont let me take you." he apologized.

"It's fine. I'll walk." I stated walking out the door.

"Are you sure?" he questioned following me.

"Yes, I'll call you when I get home."

"I love you hun." dad said hugging me.

"Love you too dad." I muttered pulling back from the hug.

Once dad walked back up the driveway I started walking home. I literately lived around the corner. First house on the right.

When I got there I let Tommy go and walked to my room. I laid down and turned the T.v. on and immediately heard the laughter of Spongebob. I light smile came across my face as I tried to imagine what episode it was. I dozed off pretty soon though. To quick to identify the episode.

I woke up to someone knocking on the door and Tommy nudging me to get up. Once I came to my senses I got up and walked to the door.

"Who is it?" I yelled through the door.

"Your new neighbor" A muffled female voice came back.

I stood there confused for a few seconds then finally opened the door.

"Hello?" I asked with an unsure voice. I never get visitors besides my parents.

"Um, Hi." the girl said.

"My name is Alex Gomez. I just moved in to the left you." she said.

"Sam King or Sammy. Which ever you prefer." I replied.

"Not to be rude or anything, but are you gonna keep your eyes closed the whole time?" she asked. I stood confused for the second since she came to my door before realization hit me.

"Oh crap! Tommy go get my glasses." I shouted. I had totally forgot to put my glasses on before I came to the door.

Not a second later Tommy ran back in the room. He nudged my hand with nose to indicate me to take the glasses out of his mouth. Ew, they're slobbery.

I wiped them off on my shirt and put the glasses on.

"Sorry 'bout that. You weren't supposed to see that." I apologized. I've got to stop being so careless.

"Um, it's okay. I just came to introduce myself. Well I've got to go finish unpacking. See you late." she said cheerfully.

"I can help if you want me too." I offered.

"You sure? You can't work with your eyes closed ya know." she said but her voice was a more closer than last time.

"I know. I won't be much help, but I'm bored here by myself. And Tommy can help you out some." I said shrugging and petting Tommys head.

"Uh, I guess. I don't really mind the company." she agreed.

I checked my neck for me key then turned around and locked the door when I felt it still in place.

"Do you ever open your eyes?" Alex asked when we reached her house.

"No." I simply replied.

"Why not?"

"That stories for another day."

-Demi-

"Demz I'm hungry." Marissa whined.

"Hi hungry, I'm Demi." I said putting my hand out for her to shake.

"I'm serious." she said frustrated.

"I thought you were hungry." I said cocking and eyebrow.

"Ugh, I give up." she said throwing her hands up.

"That's not the spirit, but I don't care." I replied plopping down on my twin sized bed. I was in Dallas for a week visiting my family. Mar didn't have anything better to do, so she tagged along.

"Demi, I came along so I wouldn't be bored. I'd rather be at home." She whined

"...You complain a lot." I replied while rolling over to go to sleep.
