Chapter 22

"I know that you know that I am right." Murdoc said. "But I have one question: Why do you trust Alec?" Alec's face went dark and I saw something bad coming. Lucy's eyes wandered between Murdoc and Alec and I saw the wheels in her head spinning. "He is my brother." She said in a calm and confident voice, but I could see that in the inside she was insecure. "Have you never thought about the fact that Alec knew me?" Murdoc affirmed a thought, which was in the back of my mind. "Alec? Haven't you told me that you owe everything to a man, who died two years ago?" Lucy sat motionless on the couch while her mouth spoke these words, her face was without any emotion. Murdoc started laughing "Oh, Alec, have you told them that I was dead? Well, it's not that easy to kill me." Everything made sense now, the reason for the Kidnapping, the whole "I show you my world" thing and why he hasn't done anything to us, besides the two shots. "I'm sorry for not telling you this, but how could I knew that you all know Dennis?" Alec apologizes and he got up. "You know, I kind of deserved this injury." His hand pointed on his shoulder. Lucy shook her head, but Alec just smiled. "I should have never denied my past, because it's a part of me."

Alec's point of view

14 years ago

Everything was covered in blue and red light and the sirens are coming near my hiding spot. "Not again." I mumbled and gave almost up, ready to leave the few weeks of running away behind be and hand myself in again. I turned twelve a while ago and nobody noticed. My birthday was a mystery, so I celebrate the day when this worker found me on the landfill. Nobody cares about me, I'm just a number on a piece of paper and if I'm missing, they start a search. "Hey little one." A man entered my hiding spot, an abandoned house near San Jose. I haven't heard him coming. "Who are you?" I asked the black haired man. Why do they always find me? He smiled and said that he is called almost everything, but that I should call him Dennis. "Do you trust me?" He asked and I shook my head. "I trust nobody." His smile got bigger. "Well, then we have something in common. I'll help you out of here, ok?" I nodded and he drove me to an old house in the middle of nowhere. The sirens were far away and the Forster home even further. This man, Dennis, I liked him. He taught me how to survive without anyone, how to use weapons and also how to live a life, which was interesting and great. He was sometimes away for a while, but he came always back. For me, he was my father, my family.

As I grew up, Dennis introduced me to his job. First it was a little shock, but I started to help him with his jobs. I was able to deal with anxiety, guilt and mercy. One day, he brought a little baby home. "Alec? I would like to introduce you to your little brother. His name is Cassian." I loved him from the very first moment I saw him. He was just a baby with full black hair and mindful eyes, but he was adorable and I started to take care of him. I was about eighteen years old at the time. Every time Dennis went away for one of his jobs, I was Cassian's father for a while. Dennis asked me to go and do a few jobs for him, so he could stay at home for a year. I knew him well by now so I flew to Georgia to do a three million dollar job. It was way tougher than I expected, way tougher than the times before. The police almost caught me, but I went off the radar for a while. I never came back home to Dennis and Cassian.

Lucy's point of view

Alec knew Murdoc and Cassian knew him too. I don't know if I should get angry at him or just accept his past. He told me that it wasn't always easy for him, facing hate and bullying in his early years. I started to admit it, because he is my brother. We are a family. Mac, Riley, Bozer, Jack, Matty and Alec. Family isn't just something about genomes, it's a feeling. I wonder how long Murdoc will keep us here.
