Today was the day of her funeral

Today was the day of her funeral. Why I am updated with it is beyond my own comprehension. I have, however, heard it's off limits to outsiders like me, not that I had plans to go or what but it's kind of unusual. Normal people don't need their parents to do crowd control for their funeral. Well, normally people surpass their parents too but... in her case it was a little different. It's either this was the first time this happened in this town or that she had a lot of friends because you don't have to crowd control if you are not famous. In fact, you have to pray to God that your friends would even show up.

When you are still around, people will adore you and will always make you feel as if they care. However, when there is no one to look anymore or to judge their actions, they forget you even exist. They make excuses like going on an imaginary holiday or a fake upsurge of work to do or maybe the worst jab of all - calling in sick on the day itself.

"Today is the funeral of Sadie Lancaster and we are here outside the chapel where she usually goes to every week. We are not allowed entry to film her funeral but we heard that it would be a short one. No eulogies would take place. Once everyone had their rounds on the casket, her old choir mates would start singing one last song for her and she would be brought outside to be buried to the ground as quickly as possible. Although everyone was not expecting it to be grand, I don't think they expect it to be this simple." Grace, the reporter, stated with all seriousness. I still can see the tiredness in her eyes.

It's a little weird you know, she's not really in the casket. Why bother to do the funeral thing? I guess that's why her family wants to make it simple. She's not even there. I bet my mother would not even bother to have a tombstone made for me if my body is not present.

"Mia, we need to talk." Hailey, whom I start to notice is fond of interrupting me watching the news, stood in front of the telly, "I need you to not hate on me. I can't afford you hating on me. You're my sister, I can stand everyone hating on me but not you."

"Well, you should have probably thought of that before doing whatever you did." She was about to say something but I decided to continue, "But I can maybe forgive you if you tell me why. I mean what do you expect, Sis? Do you think I would understand whatever shenanigan you do without any explanation. If you didn't know, I'm not a mind-reader. I can't read thoughts. In fact, if you must know I am sometimes even baffled by my own thoughts as I can't comprehend it clearly too."

"Reports are that there are only around thirty guests inside this chapel and most of them are the family of the Lancasters. Back to you Della." Grace's voice can be heard as my sister stayed silent after what I had said.

"Alright Grace, can you confirm if there are any friends or maybe acquaintances invited to this pretty small scale funeral of Sadie Lancaster or did they only limit them to family only?" Della asked, "I mean even the mayor of this town wasn't invited and Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster are good friends with the mayor themselves."

"We weren't able to see everyone that is inside. Nevertheless, we were able to capture a few of Sadie's friends entering the chapel a while ago so I guess they didn't limit it to family only." Grace replied to Della's question.

That Della chick must want more juicy details as she threw Grace another question, "Are you able to identify them? Is the mayor's daughter one of them?"

It seems to me that Sadie belongs to a rich and famous family which also happens to be a good acquaintance of the mayor. I would personally be honored if the mayor of this town would even think of going to my funeral because it means that I am a someone.

"I cannot confirm if the mayor's daughter is inside because we haven't really seen half of the people who attended and what more so with those that were originally invited. I can, on the other hand, identify a few attendees from this town. We were able to catch a glimpse of Valeria Oakley walking together with Erica Casey sometime ago. And -oh there is another woman getting inside as of the moment."

Even with my sister blocking most of the telly, I could still see the camera hastily moving to point towards a petite woman with brunette short curls around our age entering the chapel. There are body guards placed specifically in the venue for the guests not to be ambushed by media I presume. I know I've said it a lot but she seems a little boring to me. She wore a conservative black dress that was not hideous but at the same time not to appealing. I'm guessing the only thing keeping it away from being hideous is its expensive fabric used in making it.

"It's June Prescott, the daughter of the

"Sometimes, some things are best left alone in the past and never to be brought upon again." Hailey walked closer to me, "My dear sis, all I am asking for is for you to help me make a fresh start in life. I know it's quite unfair for me to ask this of you after everything that I did. I really want to tell you but I can't. The wounds are still to fresh to talk-"

The television started to make static noises as the connection was probably interrupted. Great! Not even a month in this small place and our television is broken. "I'll call a handyman to fix that."

She just nodded her head to me as she sighed and sat down on the sofa. She knew that I was no longer interested to talk to her. She knew that the only way we could go back to the way that it used to be was when she tells me everything. Until then, she has to hope that I can bear to be in this town longer to wait for her because I sure am raking as much money as I can in the shortest amount of time possible and I plan to be independent and free myself from them. It's just so hard to live with people who would rather ignore the elephant in the room than confronting it once and for all. The longer I stay here, the more suffocated I will feel because of the tension rising as we speak.
