chapter 15: family issues

Dakota's Pov 

I stood in front of the door as I hesitated to knock, finally, I knocked twice and I heard someone coming to the door. I stepped back a little as the door opened and there stood the man that was supposed to be my dad. he looked at me shocked for a couple of seconds until he broke out of it and pulled me into a tight hug, I was frozen as he hugged me for a minute and let go of me. "come in." he said as he moved to the side so I could enter the house.

I walked into the living room to see a bunch of people sitting on the couch, I saw Austin sitting on the couch as well. he was watching tv until he looked over my way and quickly jumped up, he walked over to me quickly and asked in a whisper "what are you doing here?" I took a step back and whispered: "I wanna talk to my dad, no one knows I'm here." dad wrapped his arm around my shoulders and said with glee "my daughter, why have you come to us tonight?" i felt nervous as I felt all the hunters that were in the room look at me as I tried to answer my dads question "I wanted to talk about this war." dad looked serious asked " what is there to talk about?" I stepped away from my dad and said "I wanted to talk to you about not starting it, there is no reason to start this war." dad laughed as he said "their wolves, they killed thousands of us before we started to fight back. their animals and you want to protect them?" I stepped up to my dad as I felt anger start to build up in me "yes I do because my mate is a wolf and that pack has been taking care of mom and me for a year now. they are my family and I will protect them just like how they have been protecting me. your the one that wants to come into our  home and try to start a war for nothing."  My dad grabbed my arms hard as he said with anger " those dogs are NOT your family, we were your family but your mother took you away from me."

I got out of his grip and said "I'm glad she did, your just a cold-blooded killer. All of you are, has a wolf ever really invaded your home or tried to hurt you or kill you other than you attacking them?" I looked around the room to see the others looking down at the floor, "you guys just follow blindly at what they tell you and you kill with no mercy, my friend who was an alpha had his whole pack killed and he lost everything because of you guys." I look back at dad and said with force "I came here to make peace, but you won't change your mind. I should have listened to them." I stomped my way over to the front door but turned around and said, "if you don't want to be a hunter and cause destruction for no reason, our door is always open for you guys." I opened the door and walked out with it slamming behind me. I let out a sigh as I walked over to my car and drove home. 

I opened my door to see Leon passed out on the couch and cole cooking pancakes with Jermaine waiting at the island like a little kid "what did I just walk into?" I asked with a laugh as I walked over to the table "where have you been?" Cole asked, "I'll tell you later." I said as I sat next to Jermaine as Cole gave us our plates that were stacked with pancakes. Jermaine started to scarf his down as he made animal noises, Cole sat next to me as he started to scarf down his pancakes as well. I laughed as I watched them eat all of their pancakes in 5 minutes. "You guys are really animals when it comes to your food." I said with a chuckle, I started to eat my pancakes slowly as I started to really think about what just happened not even 20 minutes ago, 'my father isn't going to stop this, there's gonna be a war. And if what Jermaine showed me is true that means either my mate or my father will die in this war.' I signed as I place my head in my arms as I let my thoughts get the best of me. "You okay?" Cole asked I looked up at him to see worry written all over his face. I smiled as I thought 'when he starts to worry, he always gets little creases between his eyebrows and his eyes become wide and his pupils dilate as he waits for my response.' But my smile faded as I said "I met up with my dad to see if I can talk some sense into him with this war, he thought I was crazy and I told him he was a cold-blooded killer." I looked up at Cole and he looked shocked.

Before Cole could say anything there was a knock at the door, Oreo started to bark loudly and woke up Leon. I laughed as I stood up and went to the door, I opened it to see Austin. I was shocked as he entered the house and walked past me, he went over to Leon and asked him "where are the knives I gave you to protect Dakota?" Leon lifted up his shirt and pulled out two knives from his back harness that was covered by his pants, Austin grabbed them from his hands quick as he turned to me and said " you have to use these to kill your dad. yes, I know your dad is human but he is trained to kill supernatural beings, so he's not the easiest to kill." I looked down at the knives and looked back up at Austin, "what? Why me?! Why does he have to die?" I asked. Austin looked at me like I've grown two heads "because he trusts you, you can get close to him without him expecting you to do anything. and plus you're his daughter." Austin said seriously, i furrowed my eyebrows and said " but he's my dad, he doesn't have to die. we can change him." Leon stepped forward and said "i don't know Kota, he's been a master killer for so long. at some point there's no coming back from that kind of stuff." i shook my head " this is crazy."
