She laughed while fire embers danced around her as if they were fighting each other just to get near her. The beer in her hand was warm but she didn't mind. She took a swig of it and continued to tell me stories about her life. With each exciting moment, she wriggled and sand would get between her toes.
I smiled and stared at her. The twinkle in her eyes was brighter than ever. And slowly, the realization hit me like a snowball in the coldest winter at the French Alps.
I've fallen for her.
"Hey, Axis."
"W-what?"
"Are you alright?" She smiled at me. "Or are you giving up now?" She laughed and leaned back down on her chair. "Pfft. Imagine! The great Axis Alcantara, giving up on a beer-off after one gulp at a warm beer."
I blushed, but she didn't notice. We've been sitting beside the fire for a while now and my face has already been red.
I forced a cocky smile at her. "Doll, even ten cases of beer can't handle me." And then, I downed the whole beer in my hand.
Her smile left her face, her head tilted and she stared at me for a while. The kind of stare that unnerved me; the kind that made me feel vulnerable; the kind that made me want to kiss her before she finds out that I love her.
Because I can't love her.
Because I shouldn't love her.
But I do.
Slowly, she leaned towards me and I mimicked her actions. And when our faces were only inches apart, she opened her mouth to say, "Prove it." And then she smirked at me and finished her beer.
I did.
Well, I tried to.
By the end of our so-called 'Beer-Off', neither of us had won.
We were both drunk off our asses, barely able to comprehend anything or even just stand still.
She laughed and smiled more than before. And I knew already that the headache I'll get tomorrow would be worth it because of this.
Music started blaring from the party close to us. She danced her heart away.
And then, everything changed.
