It was November 27, 2018, and Honest was walking to lunch when she spotted a green figure in front of her. It was Scourge.
BAM Honest punched him in the shoulder. He jumped, naturally, since she had scared him half to death and possibly also gave him a horrible bruise. "Hey!" she exclaimed. He gave her a look that resembled one that someone would give before they disintegrated the person they were looking at with their laser vision. Of course, this wasn't what he was doing at all. He didn't have any sort of power like that thankfully. Though, now that Honest thought about it, he did have super speed, right?
"You have super speed, right?" Honest asked him. He looked at her as if she had said something absurd.
"I do! You've read the comics, so you should know. I am an anti-Sonic from a dimension that Sonic had accidentally went to while on his way to another zone to confront Eggman. I have every ability that Sonic has because we are essentially the same person but with opposite alignments. Except, well, ever since that one issue where I stood on ME and turned green, we've had another difference and it's that I'm a lot cooler than him now," he told her. When they were inside the cafeteria, Scourge turned and walked towards a table.
"But can't you come and sit with me, today?" Honest called.
"Nope. Manic's waiting for me," he called back. Honest looked downcast. The reason she had wanted him to sit with her is because Rosy would be there. She had to get this plot rolling somehow. Honest sighed loudly and got in line for food.
When she got to her table holding about a dozen things of honey mustard, she found that Sonic was sitting there looking just as downcast as she was feeling. He was inspecting his sandwich closely with a look of pure disgust.
"What's wrong, Sonic?" she asked, sitting down.
He stuck out his tongue. "Amy made these sandwiches for me, but I don't want to eat them. What if they're poisoned?" he told her.
Honest sighed and glanced at Amy, who sat at a table close to theirs. She was happily talking to Rouge about something.
"I don't think she would do something like that," Honest told him, not exactly sure. "So I would eat them. Unless you're allergic to love because that's probably what she made them with."
"If I eat them, will I be accepting some sort of agreement?" he asked her, looking up.
"Uh-" She looked over at Amy again. She didn't seem to be interested in any sort of outcome from him eating them. "I don't think she meant them as an agreement," Honest told him.
He shrugged and took a bite. Suddenly, even though Amy had been really into her conversation with Rouge, she stood up and was at their table in less than a second. "Ah-hah! So, you accept my love finally!" Amy jumped and cheered.
Sonic quickly spit the whole bite out onto the table. One of Amy's eyes twitched and she ran away, horrified. Honest laughed.
"Request denied," Sonic said decidedly. "I'm glad I didn't think to swallow right away," he said cheerily.
Honest was smiling, but as she started eating she realized what was going on. This book was supposed to be focused on Scourge and Rosy's relationship... then why were Sonic and Amy having moments like this one? She got angry and dunked her chicken in her honey mustard a little too hard, a large glob of yellow stuff spilling over the side of the cup and pooling around the base."Ew, Honest. You're just like a kindergartner sometimes. Why can't you just eat your food like a sensical adult every once and awhile?" came Shadow's affronted voice from beside her.
"I'm sorry," Honest said quietly. "I was thinking about something else and I-"
"If it includes breaking the fourth wall, then I don't want to hear about it," he told her.
"Oh, okay then," Honest said, squinting at him and continuing to eat her chicken. "Tomorrow we have the really warm chicken with mashed potatoes," she told him, perking up.
"Yeah, I know. Tomorrow's Thursday," he told her, "but I'm more interested in the fact that the week's almost over."
"Oh, trust me. I am, too, but food comes way before that," she stated confidently. "I already have my special Christmas cover close to being finished and it's not even December yet. I need to come up with a design for a winter coat for Miku soon and then get started on the art." She then thought a second and looked worried. "Oh, no! It's '06 all over again! I'm rushing for Christmas!"
"Hey, '06 is an amazing game! It did wonders for my personality!" he exclaimed angrily.
"I wasn't saying it was a terrible game," she said. She then put a finger to her cheek. "And it did get released in time, so it reached its goal. I say it was a total success. That means my cover will be, too, right?""Who knows," Shadow said. "What makes this cover so special other than it coming out for Christmas?"
"Oh!" Honest said. "I found the vocals for the song in perfect quality on YouTube (or HedgeTube if it bothers you). It doesn't even have an echo! The only problem I'm facing right now is that the vocals are in a different tempo than the instrumental I found." Shadow looked concerned. "But it shouldn't be a problem to fix that. I just need to play around with the tempo until it lines up correctly."
He let out a breath of air and then leaned back in his chair.
"I'm just really excited about making the video!" Honest exclaimed, flowers dancing around her. "I'm going to draw an adorable picture of Miku in the snow!" She then saw that she had one piece of chicken left. She devoured it in a flurry of crumbs. Shadow just leaned away from her so that he could avoid getting showered with any stray chicken pieces. Smart move.---
Now it was Friday and Honest was standing by her locker, waiting for Shadow. He was going to be a little late that day because he had accidentally left his algebra binder at home. He had been doing homework for the first time in a millennium, and of course that meant that the world had to punish him somehow. Honest was surprised when Rosy approached her.
"Hey, Honest," she said, smiling. Honest blinked.
"Uh, good morning, Rosy," she replied in a somewhat confused manner."How are you?" she asked.
For some reason this normal everyday thing confused Honest to no ends.
"Good, I guess," Honest replied, again very confusedly. "Do you want something?"
"Want what?" Rosy asked as you would expect, in a confused manner.Suddenly a green hedgehog ran by them. Honest turned to watch. When he was past, Honest looked back at Rosy. She now had her hammer out.
"Scourgey!" she exclaimed happily, slamming her hammer into the lockers.
Honest jumped. "Don't do that!" she yelled. Rosy wasn't listening.
"Scourgey!" She slammed her hammer into Honest's locker. It exploded and paper went everywhere.
"No!" she cried, snatching sheets of paper out of the air. The pink hedgehog yelled her beloved's name yet again and went on a run of destruction through the hall.
Shadow then chose that moment to show up.
"What happened?" he asked as Honest chased after all the paper flying every which way.
She pointed at him with a fist full of papers. "Rosy was trying to be normal and then that guy came along and messed it all up!" She gestured down the hall towards the rampage Rosy was going on as she chased after Scourge.
"What do you want me to do about it?" he asked. Steam shot out of Honest's ears.
"I know it's not either of their faults, but my story is falling apart. Rosy is shy, then she's bubbly, and then, when she sees him, she throws all of that out of the window and goes on a rampage like this!" Honest roared. She went to her locker and stuffed it full of paper and slammed the door, but the door was severely disfigured and thus wouldn't close. This upset her even more. She kicked the locker below hers and stomped off.
Who knows how Shadow felt about having to hear and see all that. Honest didn't want to see anybody else for a while, so she didn't even think about it.---
Ooh. Oh my. Well, I need to take a break and think about what needs to be done to ensure Rosy and Scourge make it through this book alive. Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you in the next chapter.
