WARNING! This fanfic is a sad one!

~•~Stoick hadn't made it in time, and Astrid's world is now shattered.~•~

Stoick hadn't gotten there soon enough. He had realized what was going on seconds too late, and his feet couldn't carry him fast enough.

There He lay, his lifeless, brutally broken body laying on the ground, ice shards surrounding him. Toothless stood away, still under the spell of the Alpha.

Stoick stood in disbelief, and out of breath. He fell to his knees where he stood. "No." He breathed out, his voice hoarse and dry. "Hiccup." He wheezed.

No later had Astrid finally realized what was happening, and she flew to the ground atop Stormfly.

She nearly fell from her saddle as she rushed to the ground. "Hiccup!" She screamed out, tears already heavily flowing from her eyes.

She ran, stumbling over her own feet at an attempt to get there faster.

She fell to her knees at his side, picking up his head, and placing it into her lap with urgency.

She ran her fingers quickly through his hair, in an attempt to subtly coax him awake.

"Hiccup! No no no no no no, PLEASE, No no, Hiccup! Ple-PLEASE wake up! Please Hiccup!"

She said with an outcry intertwined in each syllable she spoke.

She folded her body over his, holding him impossibly tightly. She placed her forehead onto his chest listening for his heartbeat that had once calmed her, but was no more. his body was already cold. The tears that fell from her eyes landed on his pale skin, seeping into his pores.

Her cries only increased as she whispered to him, the hitch of her breath intertwined in each word she spoke.

"Please Hiccup, don't leave me, please, please Hiccup, I need you. Please come back...I love you."

She was unable to control her breathing and her lungs burned and ached from her heavy fits of breath and cries. She tried to slow her breath, to be the strong warrior he had always told her she was, but she was incapable. The thought that he was gone was too much for her to handle.

Stoick and Valka had ambled their way over to where Astrid lay her body over Hiccups. It was Valka who came up to her at first, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder, a sad, pitiful look in her eyes.

Astrid lifted her head from where it lay on Hiccups chest, her wet and puffy red eyes searching comfort in Valkas. The woman only looked at her with the same sadness.

"Why," Astrid breathed out, a few tears finding their way down the sides of her face.

Valka said nothing, but instead moved herself closer to Astrid, wrapping her up in her arms.

Astrid's head fell to the woman's shoulder, and she let out a few more sobs. Her body heaved with each intake of a shaky breath.

Her mind was incapable of wrapping itself around the fact that the man that she loved more than anyone or anything, the man she had planned on being wed to, having children with, was gone. Our of her life forever, and worst of all, there was nothing she could do about it.

A year had passed since the horrid day. The day he was killed. The day they had lit the ship that he was placed on. Astrid walked out of her house, slowly making her way down to the docks. She had let her hair down, even though customs forbade it, she had no care. The only man she had and will ever love was gone, and she could care less about morals.

The people watched her as she walked slowly though the streets of the village. Carrying herself with sadness and regret.

Toothless had never recovered either. Although he had no recollection of the past event, he had knew that his faithful rider and best friend had been killed. Worst of all, by him, even though he had no control over it. The village had looked down on him, fighting to have the beast killed for what he had done, but Astrid had been able to save him, considering he was all she had left regarding Hiccup.

She had reached the end of the docks, where only she stood. The villages knew better than to get involved with the Hofferson girls emotions towards her lover.

She took out the small wooden boat from her pocket in her jacket, an H carved into its side. She bent down, tears starting to stain her cheeks.

With an outstretched arm, she carefully placed the boat into the water. She took out the flint that she had held in her pocket, and hit the two rocks together just over the boat. A small spark appeared on the little ship, and the flame grew leather. She gently placed the tips of her fingers onto the ship, and gently pushed it out into the sea.

She stood back up, her long, golden locks flowing gently with the breeze. She took a deep breath in. "I love you." The words came out soft, and the tears had started to flow down her crimson cheeks.

Suddenly, a pair of arms slid themselves around her waist, and pulled her close to the person they belonged to. The depression was to heavy on her for her to turn around, but the voice that came next made her world shatter into a million pieces.

"I love you too." The voice said.

At hearing it, her leg scruples beneath her and she fell to the ground, sobbing just like the event had occurred just minutes ago.

The figure followed her to the ground, still holding onto her.

Then he released her slightly, and maneuvered himself so that he was facing her. He took hi calloused hands, and cautiously lifted her chin up so that she was looking at him, even though her eyes were still shut tightly.

"It's ok," he said, and then Astrid lifted her eyes up ever so slightly, opening them and blinking away the tears that blurred her vision. The nest thing he said made her fold up into his chest and cry. "I'm here."

Hiccup then brought his fingertips back to her chin, lifting it again ever so slightly, and placing his lips gently to hers. At part, he said it again only to confirm it. "I'm here."
