She knew just as much as the next person that his chances of making it though the next few days was slim. He had lost so much blood, and was beyond beaten that it baffled her that he had survived the crash in the first place.

He lay on his bed in the chiefs house, moved down to the first floor to make intended visits from the healer swift and more methodical. Stoick made often visits to his son, frequently after he returned home from a laborious day of work. He would sit at the bed side, basking in the gloomy atmosphere he wished he could illuminate with cheerful expressions and lighthearted remarks, but often couldn't find the words. But the one who had visited Hiccup most often, was Astrid.

She laid herself next to him, careful to elude any unnecessary contact that could cause him further pain, but couldn't keep her hands away from that perfect mop of russet brown hair. She laced her slender finger into it, benevolently running them through it.

"They-everyone keeps saying you won't make it..." She muttered gently, so only his unhearing ears could pick up their subtly.

"I believe in you-but..." She started, but was cut off by a few dreaded tears falling slowly down her crimson stained cheeks.

Her lip began to giver as she heals back a choke of cries, and her throat grew tighter. "But you gotta fight, Hiccup." She managed to wheeze out before she pressed her forehead to his shoulder, lettering out a few sue sobs. "I-I can't live without you..." She whispered...the words barely being able to slip passed her lips.

Before long, she found herself drying her tears, and bringing her hands away from his hair, gently kissing his temple before rising and walking out of the door of the Chiefs house.

Stormly, her new, loyal best friend had been waiting outside the house for her new rider.

"Hey girl," she greeted the dragon, patting the blend of blue and white scales. "How about a flight?" She asked the her. The Nadder squawked in response and bent down so her rider could get on.

Astrid settled herself on the Nadders side, about to mount, when the sound of a creaking door caught her attention. She turned around to find a boy with auburn red hair and a black dragon at her side.

She had never wanted to punch him more than in that moment.
