Gwen caressed my hand as I drove, her icy blue eyes wandering from trees, to buildings, and back to trees again. THe leaves were still as vibrantly green as they were in the spring. They blurred by faster and faster, fading from my vision as Gwen's eyes met mine. Her iris' ebbed and flowed like the edges of the lake at my grandparents house. Being with her was like being home, and all I wanted to do was throw all caution to the wind and run into the water that I knew would be too cold no matter what the time of year.
"It looks like its going to rain," Gwen mused, pointing at the sky that had suddenly changed to dark and cloudy. I felt a strong gust of wind against the car, strong enough to push me closer toward the yellow line on the road.
"Careful, if you don't drive straight then I definitely won't let you drive anymore. For real, this time." Gwen warned, half-jokingly.
I smiled and looked away from her strikingly blue eye to the trees. My smile melted off my face. The trees were bare. Their branches were like fingers reaching toward the dark sky. Their leaves gathered on the ground around them in heaps of brown. The wind pushed the car harder and I squeezed my eyes shut. I heard a car horn blare angrily and Gwen's scream and –
