He picked up the mouse again, then he suddenly felt claws drilling in his shoulder. From the weight of a cat he was pushed to the ground. As he could see clearly again, the only thing the young cat could see was the shadow cat from his dream, that ran up the river in a breathtaking speed. Behind it, it left a trail made out of shadows. His hearth felt almost like it was bursting, and Grayleg was unable to stand up. His eyes closed and the next thing he remembered was that he woke up laying at the riverbank.

"What happened?" Grayleg asked. Beechfall answered: "After you haven't returned from the hunt, we decided to look for you. You were laying in the forest, unconscious, so we carried you back." Grayleg looked up to the sky, since has passed out not much time to have passed. The sun was standing in the center of the sky. "What had happened to you?" Sprucefur asked with a worried undertone. Quickly he reported from his vision with the shadow cat and it went the same as they were planning. The eyes of everyone widened scared. Riverpaw found her voice again, as first: "That means we're on the right way! If we chase this shadow cat then we are still right." The others nodded and mumbled approval. Carefully Grayleg stood up again and mewed: "So, then we should not lose time." Yes,..." Sprucefur was interrupted by his sister. "NO! You can't walk any further. What if the same happens again?" Grayleg never experienced Beechfall like that. "Don't worry about me, if I feel bad I let you know." he mewed to Beechfall.

With a sight she gave up and followed Sprucefur, the tortoiseshell tom toke the leading position again. Next to him Grayleg walked, Beechfall arranged herself next to Riverpaw. Together they followed the river upwards, always in the direction the shadow cat toke. At the other side of the river they could smell the stink of a thunderpath. On their side of the river the grass was slowly exchanged by little stones.

Bit by bit the sun went down, and the four travelers were looking for a place to sleep. A bit away from the river they found a big hollow tree trunk, in which they all fitted easily. Tightly laying nest to each other, protected from wind and rain. In contrast to the last night Grayleg fall asleep immediately as he closed his eyes, he felt save around around the other cats. The chosen ones. The only thing he thought about were, what his clanmates would do right now. Did they looked for him? Was there another battle? But while he was sleeping none of his questions were answered, not by the shadow cat nor by one of the cats from star clan.

"Nothing, not even a sign of him..." Iceclaw came from a search-patrol back in the camp. Days after the trackless disappear many cats gave up the hope, to see Grayleg back in the FlameClan one day. They assumed that he had gone to another clan. Only Dawnsun and Iceclaw still looked for there friend. Goresestripe walked over to Iceclaw. He mewed: "Iceclaw, I deeply respect that you are still searching Grayleg, but..." the deputy were interrupted. "You want me to tell that he is dead, aren't you?" the black warrior asked, he looked down at his paws. "Not that, but Meadowstar and I are thinking that he might went to another clan or to the Twolegs. You have to accept that he might not come back." the golden furred told calm, in his voice were understanding, and in his amber eyes flashed pity. With grinding tail and lowered look he trotted over to the nursery.

Dawnsun who so far had just watched them, followed him unobtrusive. "Does he know something about the prophecy?" whispered to herself. Iceclaw's black and brown has disappeared in the nursery, to not be spotted she crouched next to the entrance of the Blackwing's den. She could hear Iceclaw's voice: "StarClan didn't talked to you, at all?" "No, Iceclaw. They haven't told me anything, and they wont." the medicine cat replied annoyed. "But two cats don't disappear from the forest without something happening, don't they?" Surprised Blackwing answered: "Two cats, but only Grayleg disappeared though?" "Don't you remember Redstar's visit a few sunrises ago?" I am sure the cat that is missing in StormClan has something to do with Grayleg!" the young warrior mewed. Blackwing turned away from his work and talked directly to Iceclaw: "Listen to me, I promise if I know anything new I let you know about it. But if you turn around every Stone in this forest this wont bring us any further, does it?" The warrior nodded and then left Blackwing's den.

The daily life stopped as Meadowstar stepped into the camp again, he had gone to the other leaders to find out if Grayleg had gone to any of the other clans. He sprang onto the high-rock in one leap. As the noise had died he started to speak: "As you all should have known has Grayleg disappeared without any signs. There isn't even a small scent of him. But as I found out, exactly one cat of each of the clans has gone. So if you know even the smallest hint, please tell me about it." With this words he jumped of the huge rock again. And the clan separated again, and all the cats started to theorize about the four missing cats, and what could've had happened to them.
