An empty street in the heart of Seoul

We often wondered how it could have possibly gone so far. Four deaths in one night isn't something unheard of, but how could we have expected that it would happen here? To us? And his brilliant, toothy smile... he always just looked so innocent. I guess jealousy can push us to do unspeakable things, can't it...

However, I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself.

Hi.

My name is, well, your narrator. Nice to meet you.

Now, I'll tell you right off the bat: this isn't a nice story. It's not happy in the beginning, the middle, or even the end. In fact, it's the story of the worst week of my life.

If you still want to stay... um, good luck. I'll get on with it then.

If you look around, you'll find that we are on an empty street in the heart of Seoul. This is where it began. Rather chilly, isn't it? It'll get chillier, just you wait. Now sit quiet, I'm about to start.

"Taehyung! You've known about it the entire time?!" the man cried, gesturing violently like a fish out of water. "Here I was thinking our- our friendship meant something to you! I guess even I can be mistaken. See if I loan you money ever again."

His companion sighed in exasperation and rubbed at his temples. "Jin, buddy, you aren't listening to me. I had no idea he'd actually get the job. I swear my life on it."

The two men strolled side-by-side down the dark road, kicking up small sprays of moisture with each step. Night had descended, bringing with it a thick fog. A light breeze ruffled their hair as they wandered beneath the dim golden glow of street lights which animated the puddles with brushstrokes of yellow. It was a perfect evening for conspiring, scheming, or just general brooding.

"You told me you hated him, though. I thought you were on my side!"

Taehyung turned to Jin, putting a hand on his elbow and looking him directly in the eyes. "I do hate him and I am on your side. I loathe that man with every fiber of my being. The CEO hires some poor, American immigrant to be our branch manager? As if Kim has the credentials to jump straight into that rank, meanwhile some of us have been working our tails off for a promotion all these years? Yeah, I hate him."

A sour expression crossed the man's features and he quickened his pace. "And then," Taehyung continued, worked up now, "oh, and then, what does this new guy do as the first order of business? He promotes his best friend, Jung Hoseok, to the position of design executive! The man who knows more about dressing up in ridiculous costumes than actually managing the design team of a fashion label.
