You Still Got Me

Alice immediately notices me and Jake and walks over to us trying not to draw attention to himself but that ultimately fails. He walks towards me and gives me a hug and I give him one back. I hear people start whispering things but seeing as Alice ignores them I decide to ignore them too.

"Wow M its so good to see you." He says as he smiles into the embrace. He tightens his hold on me.

"It's good to see you too Alice." I say as we pull away. He looks behind me towards Jake who I honestly forgot was there. After a few seconds of just looking at each other Alice finally speaks up.

"Hey man how are you" he says as he walks towards Jake with his hand extended ready to do their "secret" shake. Surprisingly Jake accepts his hand as he responds.

"I'm good" he simply replies. The uninterest evident in his voice but it seems Alice doesn't notice.

"I would say i'm good also but we all know thats a lie." He looks at the ground as an awkward silence takes over the group making the whispers more evident. I decide to break the silence because at this point it's making me uncomfortable.

"Hey how about we go somewhere else I don't think we should have a private conversation in front of the whole school." I say raising my voice at the end to make sure everyone knew that I noticed their looks. I took Alice's hand and led him further down the hallway towards the office seeing as I assumed thats where he had to go first. Jake was walking behind us but put some distance between us something both I and Alice noticed.

"He doesn't want to be seen with me does he?" Alice asks as he looks towards me with a sad expression on his face that breaks my heart.

"Alice you know he would never do something like that you're his friend." I say trying to cheer him up but ultimately failing. Still Alice giving me a weak smile as he responded.

"M we both know thats not true at least not anymore." He says as he looks at the floor trying to avoid eye contact as much as possible.

"He thinks I did it I mean I don't blame him he's just going off by what he's been told along with what he's seen and what he's seen is not pretty." Alice says as he stops walking.

"Well this is my stop." He glances down then looks back up at me with a smirk. "I think this is the part where you let go of my hand." I look down and i feel my cheeks immediately go red as I quickly let go of Alice's hand.

"S-sorry" I say as I look down at the ground with embarrassment. I look back up when I hear Alice laugh.

"Don't worry about." He says with a smile as he continues "besides I liked it, it felt nice..." i feel my cheeks go red again. He thinks holding my hand feels nice? And why do I feel all weird I brush the thought out of my head as I look back up managing to say one last thing before letting Alice go about his day.

"Alice I just want you to remember that you still got me so if you ever need a friend to talk to i'm here." He smiles at me and replies with a simple thank you before disappearing into the office as I feel a small smile spread across my lips but that happiness was short lived as I was brought back to reality but a obviously annoyed Jake.

"Uh what was that?"

"What was what?" I say as i'm also starting to get annoyed.

"That, you hugging him, walking down the halls with him, holding hands with him like last year never happened." He replies obviously angry but there's no way in hell i'm backing down any time soon so I step closer to him.

"Oh don't act all mad now when you greeted him like him returning was no big deal and why do you care anyway it's not like you're obligated to protect me from "danger" and Alice is not dangerous by the way." This seems to make Jake even more mad as he also takes a step closer to me.

"You don't get it do you?" He says as he looks down at me with a look of anger and frustration.

"No I really don't" I reply looking back at him with the same annoyance.

"God I can't fucking listen to this" he says as he walks away leaving me in the hallway alone.
