For as long as Alec could remember, music had been a constant in his life. Both of his parents were musicians, and although his parents weren't around all that much, it was clear they left a huge impact on him.

He could still remember the smile on his mother's face the first time he ran his fingers across the piano in their living room. The way she guided his fingers across the keys, and the way his dad stood and watched from afar and smiled with pride.

All his life, Alec strived to make his parents proud. To make music that made people feel something, music that made the impossible feel possible.

Alec sighs, placing his face in his hands as he leans over the piano in front of him.

Lately, he'd been lacking inspiration. He was tired, and all he wanted to do was take a nap or actually hang out with his friends, but he felt like he had an obligation to make music. The fans had always been a pushy group, but sometimes it got a little hard for Alec to bare. He loved their fans more than anything, but sometimes he just couldn't put out what they wanted.

"What's wrong man? That sounded good." Josh questions from the couch across the room.

Josh. Alec would always be thankful for Josh.

Josh Dun was like his number one fan, his friend till no end, his bestie for the restie. Josh was there for him when Alec needed him, whether it was for help with music or he just wasn't doing his best. Josh was the glue that held his life together, just like he held together their odd two piece band.

"I'm just not feeling it lately. I don't know, maybe I'm looking at something wrong." Alec mutters in response, rubbing at his face slightly.

"Well," Josh began, shoving his phone in his pocket and pushing himself up off the couch. "How about we go get some food. Maybe you're looking at it with an empty stomach."

Alec shakes his head in disbelief, a laugh racking through his chest. He would never understand how Josh always knew just what he needed. "Maybe you're right."
