It had been two days since Shift had set up the challenge for Kirito. Kirito had followed the rule about not racing, but Shift had been racing non-stop since he set up the challenge. Both of them, however, couldn't stop thinking about beating one another.
Y/N tried too many times for her to count, to get Kirito's mind off his race with Shift. But, every single time she tried Kirito wouldn't even give a passing glance. So, she decided to leave him alone and hang out with whoever was in control of Akuma's body at the time.
It just so happened to be that Kayaba was in control. Y/N decided to pass the time by talking. At first, she asked questions about why he had created SAO and other questions about VR.
She listened to it all, but some of the technical answers were too much for her to understand. So she changed the subject. "Have you ever been in love?" she asked.
His answer surprised her. "Once, a long time ago. Koujiro Rinko was her name. Her being in the room with me was enough to slow down my work by 40%. My heart raced whenever she got close and my palms were always sweaty when I thought about her. But, she probably hates me now even if I am 'dead'."
He continued, "I could tell she liked me too, but we were both too young and not brave enough to tell each other about our feelings towards each other. But, after SAO was created I never saw her again. The only part of her left I have is just memories. I would advise that if you have someone you love, not to be an idiot like me. Tell them about how you feel and if they reject you or think they're too good for you, don't give them any concern if they crawl back to you."
The words Kayaba was saying sunk into Y/N as if she was a sponge soaking up water. Then, halfway through starting a new question about the best way to tell people how you love them, Kayaba's voice changed to Akuma's. They were both very confused.
Neither could make sense of how Akuma somehow got control back. She wasn't slapped or injured in any way. Then from her nose, mouth, and ears, the same mist that went in her, causing her uncle to control her, came out.
Then the mist started making the shape of a person. From the mist came Kayaba Akihiko as he looked the last time Akuma saw him years prior. "Now, would you look at that. I'm no longer in a teen girl's body," he said.
Akuma rushed to give him a hug. "I forgot to say goodbye the last time I saw you. Now I can say hello one more time." She said with tears of joy running down her face.
That was the first time Y/N had seen Akuma cry. It was also the first time she had seen the man who trapped her brother in SAO. She let them have their moment and left to get Kirito ready for his race.
