Y/N had won it all. The game, the player's freedom, and Kirito's respect. But she didn't feel like she earned it.
Shift wanted to say they were cheating. But everyone had already seen his unfair ability in action. He couldn't bare losing, especially now, when he tried so hard and even cheated.
Now that Shift had been defeated, the logout function started working. But before anyone logged out Shift told them "IRL it's probably been 10 or so minutes, but you won't remember anything you said or did here. That's just how it works."
He continued, "But, as a prize for beating me, I can override that second part. I can let each of you take one memory of this place leave with you as you can go, or you can leave this game as if it never got released."
People started leaving without a second thought. Noone wanted to remember the place they had been trapped in for several weeks. All except Kirito and his crew.
Yui would remember everything without question since she was an AI. So would Kayaba, but he would be lost in cyberspace once more. Meaning the other three would have to choose what they wanted to remember.
Kirito didn't say it, but he a going to remember Y/N winning the last race. o he helped the other decide what to remember. Y/N knew that she wanted to remember something about Kirito, but she couldn't decide.
So Kirito took the initiative and decided for her. "If you want to remember me then, I might as well." He said right before he gave her a kiss. She was blushing, but it wasn't over for her yet.
Akuma butted in, "Hey! I want her to remember me too." Then Akuma grabbed her and kissed Y/N too, but even more passionately. Y/N didn't know what to do, so her body decided to faint for her.
Then, as if it never happened, Akuma finally made up her mind. "I'll remember one thing, something I couldn't do a long time ago," she said before running over to her uncle, and not being seen by the group again.
Kirito decided to leave with Yui. It took a while for Y/N to finally get up, but when she saw that everyone else had left, she did too. So she opened up her menu and logged out.
But, instead of immediately waking up in her bed, she was met with her character talking to her in her own voice. "I'm you, well not exactly, I'm the gaming you. The one that came here to have a good time. You're leaving with a new us." The player version of Y/N said.
She continued, "I know you have many questions, but more than I'm going to answer. Just know that if you take the memory you were planning on, you'll be a completely different person. You'll go from your average girl gamer to a girl searching for him. Your heart will be broken if you find him in the real world. He's married for God's sake, and you'll forget that part."
The real Y/N chimed in, "I know, but if I don't I'll forget them forever. I'd rather have my heart broken than forget him altogether. If you were really me you would know that." The fake her then disappeared and Y/N was laying on her bed.
For a few seconds, she could remember everything. But, as time passed she forgot everything, except one thing. Kissing a girl, and a boy who was the love of her life.
