(Romance alert! I adored writing this chapter. I hope you enjoy! :') )
I felt like I was in a dream.
With no hesitation but instead, a bright, semi-drunk blush on my cheeks, I offered my hand to Ray. He took it softly and pulled me forward and into his arms abruptly.
My breath hitched and I gasped quietly in my own surprise. Was this actually happening?
Ray's one warm hand held onto mine as his other encircled my waist and fell to rest on my lower back.
"Put your arm around my neck, Alice."
Before I could think of what to do next, Ray's voice whispered huskily in my ear, his lips mere centimetres from me.
I did so without question then looked up into his eyes, fear and worry quite clearly masking my face.
"I can't do this, Ray... I've never danced in public.."
I muttered anxiously. I half expected him to come up with some kind of excuse so we could walk off the dance floor together. He was a King after all, so he could do whatever he wanted. Right?
To my utter shock, and in contrast to the gruff personality I knew of him so far, Ray lowered his forehead to rest on mine. His bright eyes were the only thing I saw now. He smirked, in a cool, dreamy manner.
"It's alright. Just trust me." He whispered, his voice turning into a soft, comforting tone.
I could hear some of our guests around us gasp softly at his motions to me; others began whispering excitedly.
"Jus' look at em'. Ray is swooning teh ladiesss again." Fenrir snickered beside Sirius, who was also smirking as the two of them watched from the back corner of the hall.
"That man knows how to draw a crowd." Sirius took a swig of his whiskey.
"Kelly seems to be enjoying it as well.." Luka mumbled as he walked up to join Sirius with another drink, and Fenrir laughed heartily.
"She is lucky he's there. She must be feeling the vodka by now!"
All of a sudden, the live band began playing: violins, piano, and other orchestral instruments playing in unison to a soft, classic waltz.
With only a spotlight on us and the rest of the hall dark, Ray straightened up and took a step left, then back, and began swaying me in time to the music.
"Follow my lead. Left, right, forward, back.." he whispered to me and I began striding in unison with his feet. Once I had stepped in that order a few times, our dance became automatic and we both swayed together with the music into a beautiful dance.
Even with my head swaying just as much as my feet, my face lit up with joy. I was dancing all on my own! And it was actually quite fun!
"I'm doing it!" I whispered excitedly to Ray and he smirked down at me.
"Yes you are." He chided gruffly back.
Then, without warning, he took a larger step right and swung us around in a 180. His change up caught me by surprise and I faultered in my intoxicated state, my body tipping a heavy left and falling sideways. I gasped and retracted my hand from his shoulder and close to my body, preparing to step forward to catch my balance, when Ray stepped around me and lowered me in a dip, as casually as ever.
The audience lit up in awe and applauded, just as the music paused for a second. I gazed up at Ray in surprise, and he was staring back at me with the most suspicious smirk ever.
