12; The Question [2]

2014 ― Washington D.C.
"I know. When do we start?"

STEVE WAS STILL UNCONSCIOUS.

After his fight with Bucky, he somehow got through to him because Bucky pulled him out of the water. Katherine was called from the hospital by Sam, and in Steve's room is where she currently sat now. Sam had put on Marvin Gaye's album 'Trouble Man' that he mentioned to Steve what seemed like years ago as they waited for him to wake up, but Sam was on the outside of his room.

Katherine imagined this is what Steve must have felt like when he got to the hospital after she came back from Malibu and had been in a coma. Terrified of losing her. Steve had a nasty bruise around his eye, and some other bruises and scratches, but, thanks to the super soldier serum, he does heal quicker than most.

Steve heard the music as he started to come to, and he looked over at Katherine who was reading a magazine waiting for him to wake up. "On your left." Steve's voice was hoarse and raspy as he spoke, but Katherine quickly put down her magazine, and sat on the bed next to him.

"How could you be so stupid?" Katherine whispered to him. Steve chuckled a little, reaching out for her hand, which she took. All the anger she felt earlier vanished away when she got the call that he was in the hospital.

"I had to get through to him." He said.

"And did you?" Katherine asked.

"He's the one who pulled me out of the water. No one else could've." He said.

"So what do you want to do?" Katherine asked.

"I want to find him, and help him." He said. Katherine nodded her head as she brought Steve's hand up to her lips and gently kissed his knuckles. If that's what Steve wanted, that's what she knew they were going to do. She wanted to bring Bucky back to himself just as much as Steve did, but she had one more thing she had to say.

"Ask me again." She said. Steve was caught off guard by her words, but she was referring to when she had gotten back from helping Tony defeat the Mandarin. She was in the hospital with first degree burns, and Steve had asked her if she would marry him, and she was so surprised, she didn't know how to answer.

"Kath. . what?" He said.

"You know what I'm talking about. Ask me again." She said. Steve looked at her, as his eyes widened, he was starting to catch on and remember what she was talking about.

"Are you su. .-" She cut him off.

". .-Either you ask me again, Cap, or I'm going to ask you." She said. Steve squeezed her hand, before holding up her left one, and kissing over her fingers.

"Katherina Rosalina Moretti. Will you do me the honor, please of being my wife?" Steve asked her again. Katherine nodded her head, and leaned in to give him a kiss, but careful enough so that she didn't hurt him.

"Yes. . yes, and please don't ever scare me like that again." Katherine whispered against his lips. Steve nodded his head, pulling her back in for a kiss, while she smiled and kissed him back.

"I love you. I'll get you a ring." Steve said to her. Katherine shook her head, before laying down on the bed with her fiancé, and she laid her head down on his shoulder, before kissing his jaw a few times.

"I love you too, Cap."

"So, you've experienced this sort of thing before." Fury said as he approached Sam, and the newly engaged couple in a cemetery a couple weeks later. Steve needed some time to recover, while Katherine had a few more doctors appointments. She's only been pregnant for a month, but she looks about three months along.

The serum in her system, seeing that it heightened everything else about her, it was speeding her pregnancy along. "You get used to it." Steve said. The grave they stood at was the fake grave that they put together for Fury when they thought he died.

"We've been data mining HYDRA's files. Looks like a lot of rats didn't go down with the ship. I'm headed to Europe tonight. Wanted to ask if you two would come." Fury asked, looking at the couple. Steve looked at Katherine and squeezed her hand.

"There's something we have to do first." Steve said, and then Fury looked to Sam.

"How about you, Wilson? Could use a man with your abilities." Fury said.

"I'm more of a soldier than a spy." Sam said.

"Alright then." Fury said, before shaking all three of their hands. "If anybody asks for me. You can tell them they can find me right here." Fury said, and then he looked at Katherine and Steve. "And congratulations by the way, on the engagement, and baby." He said. Katherine messed with the ring that Steve had gotten her a few days prior with a smile on her face.

"You should be honored. That's the closest he comes to saying thank you." Natasha said as she approached the trio.

"Not going with him?" Steve asked Natasha.

"No." She said, shaking her head.

"But you're not staying here?" Katherine asked.

"Nah. I blew all my covers. I got to go figure out a new one." Natasha said.

"That might take a while." Steve said.

"I'm counting on it." She said.

"I'm not. . wouldn't want you to miss the wedding. I need a maid of honor." Katherine said. Natasha's eyes widened as she grabbed Katherine's left hand, seeing the ring on her finger.

"Nice job, Rogers. Hm, let me know and I'll be there." She said, and Katherine smiled.

"Deal." She said.

"That thing you two asked for. I called in a few favors from Kiev." Natasha said, handing Steve a file. "Will you do me a favor? Just make sure you keep my little nephew safe in there." She continued, laying a hand on Katherine's stomach.

"How do you know it's a boy?" Katherine asked.

"Just a feeling." She said. She leaned up and kissed Steve on the cheek, and then gave Katherine a hug. "Be careful you two. You might not want to pull on that thread." She said, gesturing to the file in Steve's hands, then she walked away. Afrer she did. Steve opened it up, and it was a file on Bucky. Sam approached the couple to see what they were looking at.

"You two are going after him." Sam said.

"You don't have to come with us." Katherine said.

"I know. When do we start?"
