Gus walked out of his house into the cool Virginia air. He walked around his house to his car and prayed he had his keys, which he finally didn't forget for once. He pulled open the door to his black Z4 and stuck the keys into the ignition. He slammed the door and took the top off of the car, and plugged in his aux cord to the adapter he had manually installed. He started up his personal playlist and pulled out of the driveway, he was still a bit wavy from earlier so he decided to grab a drink from someplace. He hit the road, obviously above the speed limit. His mentality was; if he payed for the whole speedometer he was gonna use the whole speedometer. He watched the dial carefully, of course he wanted to be a rebel but he didn't want to get busted by the cops. "Haunt U" by Lil Peep started playing as Gus was driving, and it seemed almost picturesque: a kid speeding around during the sunset, blasting emotional music. Gus was just driving, with no direction or location he was particularly going to. He was just purely living in a moment of emotional euphoria, but this was interrupted by his phone ringing. He checked who was calling and it was his friend, Max.
"Hey goose, I'm at the 7-Eleven. You should come get a slurpee with me and maybe we can go back to my place afterwards?"
Gus replied with, "Don't ever call me goose again, and yeah, sure. I'm on my way right now."
Max had a bad habit of just not knowing how to properly hang up or say goodbye, so she just hung up abruptly. Gus rolled his eyes and sat his phone back down in the passenger seat. He leaned back in his seat, ran his boney left hand through his thick brown hair, and sighed.REPEAT : chapter five, cont.
Gus pulled up to the 7-Eleven, pulled his keys and his phone out of his car and walked inside. He saw Max over at the slushy machine and moved over to her. Gus did the typical "Boo!" thing that everyone does when their friends don't notice them at first. Max was already sipping on a lemonade slurpee, and Gus pulled a cotton candy Faygo out of the coolers.
"Are you gonna get vodka with that?" Gus remarked about the lemonade flavor slurpee.
Max replied with, "Already got some in here, don't ask." They walked up to the counter and Gus threw down his 20."Can I get a pack of Camel no.9's?" Without even questioning his age, the cashier handed them over and then gave Gus the receipt and his change. Max led the way outside and hopped into the car before Gus could even pull out his keys. He got in, revved the engine, opened his Faygo and lit a cigarette. Max plugged her phone into the aux and started playing some really underground music, but it was stuff both her and Gus could vibe to. Gus backed his whip out of the parking lot and hit the streets again. He started en-route to Max's place and suddenly Max struck up a weird conversation.
"So where's Elize? She's always with you, did you finally kill her or something?"
Gus chuckled. "Nah, she's out on the coast, making bigger bucks than me."
Max said,
"Aw, man, too bad. Is she staying out there?"
Gus answered with a shrug, and only responded with words as they pulled up to Max's house.
"We'll see, but maybe I'll go out there soon too. I don't know though, love is expensive."
Max gave a laugh and got out of the car. Gus made sure to put the roof back on before he locked up his ride. He and Max walked up to the door of Max's apartment, she unlocked her door and ushered him in.NIGHTLIFE : chapter five, cont.
Gus stood in the hallway and kicked off his shoes, and as he was doing this Max pulled down a bottle of bourbon from her kitchen cabinet. Gus had a feeling about tonight, but his brain shook it off and instead focused on how long it had been since Gus had a real drink. Max handed him a small glass and filled it halfway, then got some off-brand cola out of her fridge and filled up the other half. She gave him a smile and said,
"Take your medicine, it'll make you feel better." Max could tell that Gus wasn't at his best tonight, and she wanted to help him out. She poured herself a cup and drank with Gus, she turned on her T.V and flicked onto a random movie. "The Omen" was playing, and it was at the part where Damien pushes Katherine off of a balcony. Ignoring the movie completely, Gus and Max kept drinking until the whole bottle of bourbon was gone. It was late, about midnight or around there, and Gus was laying on Max's lap crying about what was going on in his life. Max was raking her stiletto nails through Gus' hair to soothe him. Max and Gus were a failed couple, as they both agreed that they had just worked out better as a platonic thing. It seemed as if that was a little different tonight, since they were both incredibly wasted, tension was on the rise. Before anything could happen while he was in control, Gus blacked out. He awoke, surprisingly, clothed. Max was on his chest with her arms wrapped around him tightly, and her face buried in his neck. Like a shitty jump-scare, Gus heard his phone ring loudly. Take a wild guess at who was calling him. Mom? Friends? No, it was his lovely girlfriend, Elize. He struggled to pick up, but he did and he answered with a groggy "Hello?" Elize said nothing but Gus could hear background sounds. Two voices, one was Elize and he couldn't make out who the other one was. He just hung up and sent her a text saying "glad ur havin fun."
