With a passion for her, a flame in his heart as bright as burning a whole matchbook, he went the whole nine yards. For what though? That's exactly what everyone asked; why and how would someone like Elize Winters deal with the emotional car crash that is Gus Porter? For starters, they loved each-other, even if Gus was a total scumbag sometimes and typically made horrible, ugly decisions. Somehow, Elize still cared about him and knew somewhere within his body lay a delicate heart that had just been through too much in his short 17 years of living. Gus wanted and needed Elize more than air. Yet, he normally ruined their on-and-off relationship by being unfaithful, so how does he love her? He doesn't even know why he does it, but he knows for certain that Elize is the girl he's meant to be with until he dies, and she feels the same way. It's just hard for her to stay around when all Gus does is break promises and her heart, over and over and over again like a broken record. She stays though, because she has faith in Gus. She believes that he is capable of being something fantastic to her and she is looking forward to the day that he finally shows public affection towards her or isn't an asshole for a week, or makes it seem like he actually loves her. He doesn't know the exact reason he's a bad human because there's too many possible causes, all he knows is that he'll always hate himself for what he's done to the girl he loves. With every morning he wakes up, and looks out his window at the painful sunrise, he thinks about a lot of things. Elize, himself, them, his car, his friends, his hobbies, his past—and he gets reminded of why he's constantly anxious and ready to point a gun at his skull and give himself fatal lead poisoning. Then he gets up, opens his phone, replies to or texts Elize, and continues living the exact same shitty life he has been for the past 10 years.
GETTING BY : chapter one, cont.
Elize Winters. Perfect, in Gus' eyes but absolutely not in her own. Meeting Gus was the best thing that has ever happened to her, yet falling in love with him is the worst. They don't ever seem to work, yet they need one another to stay sane and alive, but being together also sometimes makes them want to die. It's a mess, it's an emotional wasteland, and it's full of pain and horrible things; yet it's also full of laughs, and kisses, and hugs, and nights spent with each other held tight and so close to their hearts. Nobody gets it, not even Gus and Elize.
ROOKIE MISTAKE : chapter one, cont.
It started in class. Start of the year, brand new and fresh out of a totally different state, Gus walked into his fifth hour class on a weird Tuesday afternoon. Truth be told, Elize didn't even like him at all for the first few weeks after meeting him. Something changed though, after days and nights of texting, she developed something for Gus. Not a good idea. So, by the end of that week, they had been together for the first time ever. Neither of them really knew how to handle a relationship or keep it healthy, so they just kinda were friends with a fancy "dating" label. It wasn't anybody's fault, not at all, they just couldn't fight fate. This is when things started going from "parked" to "neutral" and rolling down the hill. Whoever knew that could happen between such a nice looking couple? Everyone supported them, and they heard nothing but good news of the lively pair Gus and Elize. Of course, the duo knew otherwise.
