Today. Today is the day.
Today is the day I walk out of my grandparent's house to the Harrodian to start year 12 with a bunch of other british kids.
Great.
"Kas. I've said already, it's time to wake up dear..." My mom was shaking me a bit harder now, and I groaned. Because of jetlag, I fell asleep at 4 and now, I have to wake up at 6 in the morning. Extremely sleep deprived, I yawned and kept my eyes half open, staggering over to the bathroom until I bumped right into it's door.
I turned on the tap to run my toothpaste and brush under the chill water. After a quick brush, I took a shower that immediately woke me up and headed downstairs for another one of gran's delicious breakfasts. Only this time, my stomach wasn't really feeling up to eating. My mind was more focused on how awful my first day was gonna be.
"Ready for a marvelous day, Kassandra?" I nodded and faked a smile.
"Great honey, I can't wait to hear from you after today. Oh, and don't forget. Look for Finnegan, he's a dear."
*cue me mentally rolling me eyes*
I quickly ate my toast and went to go change into my school uniform, the thing I dreaded.
I opened my closet to see the grey knee length skirt, baby blue collared shirt, pullover, and leggings. Blech.
I hastily pulled on my stockings when my grandpa honked the car outside. I ran downstairs to grab my bag and hopped into Gramp's car.
"Why Kas, you look absolutely lovely."
I smirked. "Thanks, grandpa."
He chuckled as we began to drive over to the Harrodian, and a sick feeling developed in my stomach like it was flipping over and over again.
We approached the front of the building and I slowly hopped out of the car.
"Do you want me to walk you inside, Kas?"
I shook my head. I wasn't in Kindergarten, I think I could handle this.
Grandpa smiled. "Alrighty, see you after school! Hope you have a great day!" He waved and then began to drive back home. I watched as his car slowly disappeared and then looked up at the large school.
The tall, white walls and few pillars reminded me of the White House. Around the perimeter of the building was a blanket of lush, green grass and a few daisies sprouting here and there. It looked like a mansion.
I started for the door when another hand grabbed for it. I turned to see a blond girl surrounded by a large group of other girls all carrying large handbags and purses instead of backpacks. I guess she was like the "leader" of the "posse". She looked at me surly; she had blue eyes lined with thick eyeliner that shone with attitude.
Something tells me I'm not gonna get along with her.
"Um, I'm trying to get to class, so would you mind moving your hand?"
I opened my mouth to speak, but for some reason, nothing came out.
A couple of the girls in the back giggled.
"Aw, maybe she's poorly!"
"Maybe where she's from, they didn't teach her how to speak!"
"Or open a door!"
I felt my face burn and I pushed past them to open the door when the blond girl stopped me again.
"Oh no. Before you go, let's first....get to know you." She walked around me and I felt massively uncomfortable.
"So....you a newbie?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
"Where you from, new girl? Judging from your accent, are you from the land of burgers?"
She stifled a laugh and my toes dug into my shoe with anger.
"I'm from Illinois in the US, not Burgerland. And I have a name, by the way, it's Kassandra or Kas, if you care. And at least my country doesn't reek of smelly fishes and chips." I fanned under my nose to emphasize, and she glared at me.
"You better take that back, Burgergirl."
I felt the steam rise in my head from peer pressure. She was getting on my nerves, and I couldn't speak. The blondie laughed.
"Aw, see? She has a problem! What's the matter? You're heaving a bit. Got anxiety? Oh, poor girl, hahaha!"
My eyes widened. Ok, that was the last straw. If anyone makes fun of anxiety or panic attacks, they're gonna be beaten till they see stars during the day. No one talks about my dad's condition funny.
"Now, you just stop right there!"
The group of girls stopped laughing.
"Now, you can call me names or make fun of where I'm from. But when you make fun of anxiety problems, that's when I DRAW THE LINE! I have family suffering with that!"
I felt something wet fall from under my eyes, but I didn't care.
"If you're trying to tease people like my own flesh and blood, then I won't tolerate it! Bitches like you won't last a day with their problems! So, back the fuck off!!"
The girls went oooh. What is this, Mean Girls?
I stormed into the halls, walking faster and faster away from them, tears streaming down my cheeks. I could feel their gaze on me, but heck if I cared.
I went to my first class and quickly sat down at a random seat in the back of the class. I didn't want to make any friends today; it's just like what I thought. Rich, snobby kids. I don't need this.
I wiped the tears off my face and turned to see another boy staring at me from his seat. He had brown hair and green eyes, and had a concerned face. But I disregarded him and turned back to take out a paper and pencil for any activities in class today.
After class, I ran out to sit at a curb by myself and cry out. I really couldn't take what the blond girl had said; it hurt to the core.
"Hey!"
My bloodshot eyes turned around to see who was calling me. I saw the boy from my first class walking over to me. "You alright, love?"
"No, leave me alone."
"Why? Are you sure you're ok? You don't seem..."
"Are you here to bully me also?!" I yelled to the brunette boy. "'Cuz if you are, then you can just fucking leave! I've had enough for one day!!"
The boy looked at me surprised. I had to admit, he was awfully cute. His lush brown hair complimented his emerald eyes perfectly. But honestly, with all that happened already, I don't care or feel like talking to or trusting anyone.
"Sorry, I just wanted to see if you were alright. You were lonely, so I thought that maybe I could...."
"You could what, laugh at me and try to make my first couple of days in Chiswick worse?" I sneered. "Just get the fuck out....I don't need company, my life is terrible already."
The boy opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it and began to walk away, frowning. Then, he turned around briefly.
"Alright, suit yourself. But once you feel better, come find me, we'll talk."
He walked up to me and handed me a note, and then left, leaving me alone on the sidewalk with a piece of paper. Curiously, I opened it up to see a small bit of writing scrabbled in.
'My name's Finn Harries. I think you're nice, we should talk. I'll show you around :)'
I looked up, and tried to look around to see where Finn went. But he was gone, and I was alone.
All alone.
