HOTEL
I know I said I was headed back to Kris's but then it dawned on me if Zach really wanted to get to me, it's the first place he would look, so here I am pacing in Dansby's hotel room. Finally the door opens and the lights flip on, and I get lost in the gaze of the guy I just went off on. "Dayla, I thought you were going to Kris's.""I was, but Zach if he wants to get to me, he knows where Kris's house is." I start as Dansby approaches me. "Look I'm not here for anything, I just... maybe this was a bad idea, I'll go." As I start to leave Dansby quickly picks me up and heads to the bed before gently putting me down.
"Here put these on for the night. I'll drop you off in the morning before heading to the field." Dansby says as he tosses me a shirt and shorts. I quickly change as he gets in bed next to me, once he's settled I snuggle up to him as he wraps an arm around me, I slowly drift off.
BATTING PRACTICE
"So you stayed in Dansby's hotel room last night?" I sigh as Jess asks me again, I look at her and nod."All we did was sleep. He dropped me off at the house and left. We barely evened talked which after me going off on him last night I don't blame him." I replied frustrated before turning my attention back to the batting practice.
I watched as Dansby walked by a few feet away without even noticing at me. I watched as he did his batting practice which didn't seem like it was going well. I watched as he headed for the locker room down in their dugout. Needing to come up with a reason to go down in the locker room I walk up to Adam. "Hey do you still keep tylenol in your jacket?"
"Yeah it's in my locker, go ahead and go get it." Adam says as I head towards the locker room.
Once in the locker room I see Dansby sitting on the bench with his head in his hands. I go to Adam's locker and open it to grab the tylenol. "Is this how it's going to be between us now?" I look over to see Dansby looking at me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"You know what I mean. This acting like we don't realize each other is there and completely ignoring each other." Dansby adds.
"You're the one that has been acting like I don't exist. You didn't even say anything to me in the car and you barely said anything to me after what happened at the club." I exclaim.
"You know what..." I watch as Dansby gets up and starts to walk past before the exit of the locker room, he stops and turns back around. "I can't keep doing this."
"Doing what?" I asked following him.
"This, acting like I'm okay with being used as a rebound for you." he says as he runs his hand through his hair. "Look I know we agreed on it. But I can't do it anymore." I stand quietly as he continues to explain. "Because every thing I do with you, makes me fall even more in love with you. Every laugh, every smile, every kiss, every cuddle session we have I fall harder for you and you don't see that. You don't see that I love you."
I watch as he turns back to leave. "Dansby wait!" I call after him as he snaps back around.
"Do you love me?" I take a deep breath in as his gaze burns a hole through me. Shaking his head he says the word that I've been dreading to hear. "Strikeout."
GAME
The game was going really good despite the fact I was a little distracted by the whole Dansby situation. Kris had hit a home run earlier in the 3rd inning, Adam hit a home run in the 6th inning, and Dansby just hit a home run. So now here we sit in the bottom of the 9th inning 2 outs with the score Braves: 12 Cubs:10 with Javy on first and Schwarber at the plate. The next thing I know is the ball is bunted, Ozzie grabs it before throwing it to Dansby and then.... "Oh my god!!!" I scream as I watch Dansby grab at his knee."What the hell just happened?" Erin ask as she rejoins us. "I get up to go pee and come back to this."
"Kyle bunted, Ozzie threw it to Dansby and Javy slide and went right into Dansby it looked like he over extended his knee or something." Brock said as I could not believe what I was seeing was Dansby being helped off the field.
AFTER GAME
I was waiting around for any update when I finally saw someone I knew. "Charlie is Dansby okay? I need to know if he's okay can you just take me to him please?" I said as I grabbed Charlie's arm. "Look Charlie, he told me he loved me. And I didn't say a thing when I should of. I love him Charlie just let me see him.""Come on he's in the trainers room." Charlie says as I follow him to the room. "He's in there." I nod as Charlie turns around. "Oh by the way, I really hope you two work things out. You guys do make the perfect couple." I smile at his comment before entering the room.
I walk in to see Dansby sitting on the bed with his knee in a brace, looking down at his phone. "Hey." I give a small smile when he looks up at me. "Are you okay? Hows the knee?"
He scoffs before responding. "I'm fine. I over extended it that's all. Why do you care?"
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay." I said before taking a few steps towards the bed. "Of course I care."
I watch as he shakes his head and looks back up at me. "Yeah right, sure you do." Instead of using my words I press my lips against his and place a hand behind his neck deepening the kiss.
"I care because, I love you Dansby." I say pulling away. "Just took me a little longer to accept it."
I smile as Dansby leans forward to reconnect our lips. "What the HELL is going on here?" Turning around I knew this was going to be hard to explain.
