CAR RIDE
After rushing around to get dressed, make sure my hair looked okay, and got my teeth brushed I finally was able to meet Dansby at his car. Now for the last 10 minutes of this drive I have been sitting painfully quiet not knowing what to say or actually trying to figure out why he hasn't said anything. "Okay since you're not going to say anything I will. What the hell is going on with you Dansby?" I asked while looking at him only to see his eyes give me a quick glance before going back to the road. "I mention the other dog in the picture and you clam up and now haven't talked to me for a good 20 minutes."

"I don't know what you want me to say." he finally says as his grip on the steering wheel tightens.

"I just want to know why you clamed up when I mentioned the other dog." I respond. "If you want whatever this is between the two of us to work, then you can't just shut me out." I watch as his grip tightens some more and he makes a left turn, before pulling into a parking lot and parking. I glance out the window to see that we had arrived at the training facility. "Dansby just tell me what is going on, please."

"WHY DO YOU CARE? I mean after all I'm just your rebound booty call!" I slink down shocked by his outburst. I turn my body away from him only to see from the corner of my eye him taking deep breaths.

"Well since you think that we should just go get your dog. So you can just say the stop word and then drop me off back at my house." I respond as I turn to open the car door, I feel a hand grab my arm.

"Day, look I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go off it's just..." he trails off letting go of my arm and running his hand through his hair.

"Its just what?" I ask, has he takes a deep breath and clears his throat.

"Dugan, was his name. I got him when I was eleven as a pup, he was my first real responsibility." Dansby finally spoke up. "He became not only my partner in crime when I was a kid, but he became my best friend the one thing that I could always count on."

"I've had one of those before." I added smiling whole grabbing the hand closest to me. "What happened to him?"

I watched as he took another breath in. "5 months ago I decided I wanted to add another dog to my family I knew Dugan was getting old, thought a pup might be good for him. A family friend of mine was selling Belgian Malinois puppies. Decided to get one and when I brought Xena home Dugan acted like a puppy again." Dansby added smiling at the memory. "A month ago, not to long after my break up I noticed that he was starting to lose weight. Took him to the vet, got x-rays and it was discovered that he had a huge tumor on his spleen and a tumor in his chest."

I watched as he tried so hard to stay strong. "Dansby you could never of expected to guess it was something like that."

"I know I just feel like I should of known after everything him and I had been through for 14 years." he added.

"Believe me I understand that. I had a Saluki, Snapple for 13 years and lost her to cancer and to this day I still feel like I should of been able to do something for her." I said as I reached across the car to bring him into a hug. "Come on let's go get Xena."

CAR RIDE HOME
"Hey I know you said that she was extremely, extremely friendly. But how do you get her to stop licking." I asked laughing as I tried to get Xena to settle down.

"You don't." Dansby laughed. "You just have to let her get her licking obsession over." I laughed as he reached a hand over to me. I hesitated as first before taking it. "You know the team's going to be in Chicago for the next three game series."

"Yeah I know Kris texted me about it." I added. "He is trying to figure out if him and Jess have enough food and have everything around for Adam, Will, Brock, my mom and dad, and myself. Since They've always said that family doesn't need to get a hotel when in Chicago." I laughed before glancing over at Dansby. "What?"

"You know you could just stay in the hotel with me." he suggested. I shook my head. "It would make getting my booty call easier."

I gently slapped him on the shoulder before joining him in laughing. "Keep it up and you won't be getting a booty call at all."

All I knew was this weekend in Chicago was going to be one that I will never forget.
