four days, four nights.
taeyong had stayed at jaehyun's for four days and four nights. the dog would leave during the day for his job at a daycare two blocks down, leaving taeyong alone in his house. it didn't entirely matter, the days were wasted away with taeyong catching up on his much-needed sleep.
taeyong reluctantly agreed to stay at jaehyun's house at least for the time being. he didn't want to die just yet. jaehyun gave him some house rules while he was away, but, again, it didn't matter. taeyong was passed out on jaehyun's couch most of the day.
it was friday and jaehyun was going to be home soon. taeyong groggily awoke, his hair messy, tail swishing against the couch cushions.
he stretched his arms back, yawning loudly. his throat made a small squeak as his arms cracked. he raised himself and glanced around the now familiar house. he walked out of the living room and into the small hallway connecting the front of the house to the back with the kitchen and den area. he paused for a second and looked around at the picture frames.
he cooed seeing jaehyun with two small children snuggled into his sides. to the left was a mouse hybrid with ears as big as jaehyun's and to his left, a brown bear had his small arms wrapped around his waist.
taeyong moved his eyes to a picture of jaehyun with a blue gown and cap on, he was standing beside two older looking wild dogs and a bear with the same gown and cap on. they had their arms wrapped around each other's shoulder.
in the next photo, the young bear in the first photo and the older bear from the previous were laughing and wearing birthday caps. jaehyun was covered in frosting and sported a bright smile.
taeyong felt somewhat envious of jaehyun. he seemed to have such a happy life. he let his smile become a sad frown and continued down the hall to the kitchen area.
he looked at the bubbly bright blue sticky notes placed around for him. jaehyun for the past few days before he'd leave for work would leave him sticky notes telling him how things worked in the house, where food was, where dishes were, that kind of stuff. taeyong sighed and began to read that days notes.
the first sticky note was placed on the silver fridge,
good eats in here! i have leftover salmon from last night and made a fresh cup of rice this morning. i'll bring home some more milk for you today.
taeyong tore the sticky note off and crumpled it up, tossing it in the bin. he opened the fridge and examined the contents. there was still about a cup worth of milk left. he took out the container and placed it on the countertop. when he went over the usual cabinet that had the glasses, there was another obnoxiously bright blue sticky note.
i didn't do the wash :( sorry! there are only a few sippy cups left.
take furrowed his brows crumpled up the note, tossing it out like the first. he opened the cabinet and was greeted with only cartoon themed sippy cups. he cursed under his breath and grabbed the one closest.
holding the peppa pig sippy cup in his hand, he contemplated if he was truly thirsty enough the go through with drinking from a sippy cup. he decided to go ahead.
he twisted the top off and poured the remained of the milk carton's content inside. he threw the carton out and opted to leave the top of the cup off.
he took a swig of the milk and walked back to the couch. he plopped down and leaned forward, grabbing the remote from the center table. he placed his milk down and right when he pressed the on the button, the front door opened with a loud creak.
taeyong's ears twitched and his head spun toward the door.
"i'm back with-"
"who's he?" the same small brown bear from the photos shouted as he wiggled past jaehyun.
taeyong's eyes dilated when he focused on the small child. there was a second child, the mouse he saw before. taeyong stood up from the couch, wearing jaehyun's pajamas.
the small children walked closer to taeyong with big round eyes that were filled with curiosity.
"his name is taeyong," jaehyun answered the child, "i hope you read my note, i mentioned i'd be bringing these two over,"
taeyong didn't answer. he eyes stayed focused on the children. they were whispering to each other. his untucked tail began to swing side to side nervously. jaehyun furrowed his brows and moved closer to the two boys.
"this is chenle," he said placing a hand on top of the small bear head, "and this is jisung," tickling the mouse's side.
the mouse let out a jittery giggle, but taeyong still said nothing. they looked so happy. innocent, unknowing. taeyong studied them, watching as the mouse elbowed the bear's side causing them to begin playfully roughhousing with one another.
"hey, taeyong? everything okay?"
taeyong walked toward the door, ignoring the question. he walked past the trio, not sparing a glance.
"i have to go," he said as he slipped on his shoes.
jaehyun barely had time to process before the door was slammed in his face. he scratched his shoulder and turned back to the equally confused toddlers.
