Chapter 3.

[Mia's Pov]

Fortunately, the surgery went well. I was informed by Jamie that Mr. Romano's family were on the floor of his room, looking at him through the glass window next to his room door.

I saw Jameson walking to me from a distance. Jameson or Jamie for short is one of my best friends. We have known each other since high school, headed off to medical school together and were lucky enough to work at the same hospital. With his not-so-short dark, brown hair, beautiful grey eyes, kind of long nose and ability to make anyone laugh, he is quite attractive to the female population. Don't get me wrong, I'd totally go out with him if he wasn't gay. However, he's a great friend and I adore him too much.

Jamie snapped me out of my little reminiscing moment with a small hug which I returned. Handing me a clipboard, he placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Ready, doc?" He asked excitedly.
With a sigh, I replied, "when am I not? Jeez, I don't know how I'll be able to face him again. I'm literally sweating." Jamie patted my shoulder with a bit of good luck as I made my way to the family members of my patient.

Anxiety was creeping up on me, different thoughts came to my mind whilst I walked through the quiet hallway. 'You can do this!' I whispered to myself as I came upon Lorenzo and his siblings.

As if they had the ability to detect when I was near, their heads snapped up to me. They all quickly stood up quietly just waiting for me to say something. Lorenzo reached out to touch my arm, but I moved myself a little bit further away from him, I could feel the gaze of him and his siblings boring into my face. He instantly pulled his hand away as if he was caught stealing.

With a forced smile, I flipped over a page from my brown clipboard and began speaking.
"Well, your dad's surgery went extremely well. Both bullets have been safely removed and he has been given two types of medication for the pain. After he has been well-rested, I will send him down for the x-ray that I was talking about earlier. He will be assisted by doctor Jameson and nurse Ariel, I would advise you not to pressure him too much. You will be told when you all can go in to visit him."

"Thank you, doctor." Lorenzo's brother spoke up. I think his name is Cal, at least that's what I was told when Lorenzo and I dated.

"It's not a problem at all, so please call me Mia." From the corner of my eyes, I barely caught Lorenzo stiffening up. Huh.

"Before I went, I was told by doctor Jameson whilst running some blood tests that he discovered that Mr. Romano had diabetes; I had taken that into consideration and gave him some medication that would not affect that in any way. I suggest you guys go home, get some sleep, maybe take a shower and a change of clothes. Your dad is under perfect care." I said kindly. I looked up at them and I noticed that Lorenzo's expressions were changed from stressed out and angered to thankful. He gave me a smile, which I somehow dared to return but then quickly walked away after realizing.

I sped toward the doctor's lounge where I found Jamie and Ariel taking a break. Ariel or Arie for short is an Asian-South African born girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She is quite tall but has a heart of gold. Arie transferred to Burlington Central High School during freshman year. She was new and looked like a lost puppy so Jamie and I took it upon ourselves to make her feel at home; we instantly became good friends. After high school, Ariel took off to a different medical college whilst Jamie and I was off to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. A few years later and we were all lucky enough to end up working at the same hospital.

"Well, if it isn't Miss my-exs' dad-is my-patient." Squealed Arie. I plopped down next to her, with a huff I grabbed the sandwich Jamie placed on the table in front of me. I took a bite of the sandwich which I came to know had eggs and cheese in it whilst those two babbled about Lorenzo.

"So, what happened? Did you guys talk? Did you kiss? Come on! Come on! Tell Us!" Jamie jumped up and down like a child about to get candy. Jeez, how are these two even my friends?

"First of all, calm down boy, let me breathe," I said cracking up. Jamie huffed and became quiet so I used that as my chance to tell them how I felt.
"We didn't do any of those things you asked, I talked to him and his siblings about his dad. He tried to touch my arm but I pulled away. When I was about to leave he smiled which I returned. I'm still trying to get over him, but why did I feel all giddy inside when he smiled at me?" I asked with a sigh.

Ariel pulled me in a hug. "Girly, you still love him. I mean, it's only been one year. You've been with Lorenzo since you were what? Seventeen? You just can't get over that kind of love." She said sweetly.

"Arie's right, Mee. Look, Lorenzo did a really fucked up thing, but I kind of understand his perspective as well as yours. You were both young, work and school were catching up. Things have changed and so have you guys. Take a risk and give it a chance. At least talk to him. Hear his side of things." Jamie explained.

"I don't know, I don't want to get hurt again by the same person. I've tried so hard to move on, I don't want him to ruin that. But, I'll think about it. Thank you, guys! You're the best, now let's get back to work before we get reported to HR for slacking." I said as I pulled both of my friends into a hug.

Good Night Friends! I hope all is well, a happy Friday to you guys. Tonights [Friday] update is in place for Sunday because I will be a bit busy and may not be able to update. So, Andy Samberg as Jamie, Huh? :D Is anyone else a fan of him? He is just too cute! Also, Ariel's picture will be down below. I hope you all will enjoy this chapter and take care until next week. I might not be writing a lot in Lorenzo's POV because it's quite hard writing in a mans view of things.
